SUGAAAAAR!

I keep going over my sugars for the day; not by massive amounts, but I'm a sucker for my low-fat yoghurts and some mornings I have cereal. I also tend to snack on fruit (not planning on ditching the bit of fruit in my day, too many health benefits but still an apple and a handful of strawberries adds up..) I switched to soy milk today, because 1. I love the stuff and 2. Lower sugars.
Just wondering what everyone's favourite low-sugar or sugar-free snacks/foods are? I'm looking for ideas!

I found a low sugar Greek yogurt (Chobani - Fat Free Greek Yogurt) and omg it was.... not tasty to me. I had some cups of del monte fruit and luckly it made it tast a lot better.
Diabetes runs in my family so I do what I can to make sure I avoid as much sugar as possible including taking cinnamon whenever I eat breakfast since it's normally the worst food I eat with sugar.
Best wishes and look forward to seeing others posts.

Switch to plain yogurt and eat it with fresh fruit maybe? That way you get both at once.0

Hmm that's a good idea actually, might try that.
Anyone have any other low-sugar foods? (or do they not exsist lol)0 -

Yup, I do that. Kiwi, strawberries, bananas, apples & cinnamon, its way better than these yogurts filled with sugars!0 -
Not sure how you feel about artificial sweeteners, but Kroger makes really good Carbmaster yogurt that is not bad on sugar at all.0

Like you, I need to keep my sugar down, natural or otherwise. So I do have fruit every day, but I keep it to around a half cup a day. I eat a whole lot more veggies, and used them for snacks too. I often add my fruit to a lower glycemic protein powder, to make a half a smoothie for a snack.0 -
I put some blueberries in with Greek yoghurt (0% fat). Really tasty! The wee weightwatcher's yoghurts are nice too. I always eat lots of vegetables with my lunch and dinner too.0

When I'm losing weight, I don't count sugar aside from carbs and I only count carbs in terms of making sure I hit my protein and fat macros. Go read the American Heart Association's guidance on sugar carefully and you'll notice that what they're really worried about is calories.0

I count sugar but just out of curiosity to see how much I am eating each day ..
sugar is not the devil.
sugar will not make you fat…
eat in a calorie deficit and you can go over on the sugar limits that MFP sets, which are really low…
but in …for sugar fear mongering...0 -

I really wish that food labels would distinguish between types of sugars. I'd not advise switching from milk to soy just to free up space in the diet for different sugars. Unless you're lactose intolerant, why would you want to get rid of one of the best foods on the planet (2% milk, yogurt, cheese) in terms of macronutrient balance?
Worry about added sugars, not sugars that occur naturally in your foods. If you eat fruit, veggies, dairy and grains all day long and reap the micronutrient benefits and/or fiber that go along with them, why would you then worry about the sugar content and consider giving that up?
It's the low nutrition, added sugar, high calorie foods (because at the end of the day it's all about calories and satiety), like sweetened breakfast cereals, cakes, pies, donuts, and candy that you have to moderate (moderate, not give up). They are loaded with calories and won't fill you up, so you're left seeking other food sources, or left hungry if you are counting calories and overindulged.
As for yogurts, some are clearly healthier than others in terms of macronutrients and micronutrients. Others barely have protein in them and are just sweet little desserts. You can still eat them, just treat them like desserts.0 -

Lol, just to point out-I don't think sugar is 'evil', not trying to fear monger anything here-I'm not so much concerned about it making me fat despite eating at a calorie deficit; I'm more asking for options for the sake of my overall health. I've had a long history of junk food and an over-indulgent love for chocolate and ice-cream, which I still eat once in a while (except I weigh it now and fit it into my calories.) I actually made a point of re-introducing it into my diet after the first 2 weeks, so that I can learn what a moderate amount actually is and learn to enjoy that amount for what it is; without it sending me into a binge.
As some others have mentioned, they don't usually worry about sugars from fruits, only added sugars; that's a good point and if I've had a day where I know most of my 'over' is from fruit, it doesn't bother me as much. I'm not someone who is going to freak and abandon apples because "zomg fruit haz sugar!" But, as I said; I was just asking what other people like to eat as a low-sugar snack option, so I can keep myself from going way overboard.
Thanks for your input everyone, oh yes and about the milk thing; I felt it was a fair trade as I still eat plenty of other dairy; low-fat cheese, butter, yoghurt. I still drink milk on occasion; but I like the taste of soy, and it has it's positive benefits too.0 -

Even if you never eat sugar again for the rest of your life, you will still die.
Well that's one way to get a point across, hehe.
OP, unless there's a legit medical reason you need to watch sugar, just don't worry about it. Sugar is da bomb.0 -

If you don't mind artificial sweeteners, Atkins has an Endulge bar- Caramel Nut- that is awesome! Yeah, it is basically a candy bar, but without the sugar/carbs. I also have the Atkins Daybreak Hazelnut bar every morning for breakfast.0

My strategy is to eliminate added sugar from those unexpected places.
1. I buy bread with 0 sugar. I get those dense rye breads like Rubschlager
2. I don't get pre-made oatmeal but buy Bob Mill's 5 grain hot cereal and eat with fruit (bananas are the sweetest option, but berries work too).
3. Plain yogurt with fruit or sugar free jam
If any of those need sweetening, add your own, but at least you can control the source and the amount.0 -
