You'll have good results with any exercise plan you stick to. I too just started Zumba. I find it to be fun. A lot like dancing, which I love. lol0

karinav89, any cardiovascular or strength training exercise regimen will yield results if followed with a good nutrition plan & calorie deficit.
I haven't seen any Zumba specific success stories but I'm sure there are some out there that use Zumba as an exercise tool.0 -
Zumba helped me a lot when I first started losing weight! It was all I could do at over 250 lbs that I loved and it had me losing a steady 2lbs a week for months! Add me and you can take a look at some of my before and afters!0

I only do Zumba once a week because that's what I can afford but my Zumba instructor has a hell of a success story!!! When I first started going to her she had already lost about 25 lbs just learning to be an instructor. She still had a quite a belly and was probably a size 10 (just guessing) with in 2 weeks of doing it 3 to 4 times a day every day but sunday her stomach was flat and she was down to a size 2 ish. She lost quickly because she was doing it so mush being an instructor so it will probably take you a little longer but it definitely works!! She has had to cut her classes down to 2 a day 4 days a week just because she cant keep up with eating enough food to work out that much. You burn any where from 500 to 1000 calories in an hour of Zumba depending on how into it you get, so on days she was doing 4 times a day she was burning like 4000 calories and she just couldn't eat that much food to make up for what she was burning. Any way, I love Zumba, it works, its fun, and my kids ( 4 yr boy and 20 month girl) love to dance along with me. If you are doing a class and want to get a few work outs of it duing the week with out spending the money check out youtube. Type in Zumba fitness full work out and you will get tons of videos ranging from 15 mins to an hour and a half, all different songs and dances.0

Hi. Welcome to MFP!
I have been doing Zumba 2-3 times a week for the past couple years. It's made such a difference both in weight loss, and firming up my abs. I've been away for the winter and haven't been doing zumba here, and even though I haven't gained any weight, and walk 5 miles most days, my abs are definitely getting flabby again. Can't wait to get home to my awesome Zumba instructor, who lost 35 pounds taking classes, which is why she decided to teach it. It's also improved my balance and overall toning, since she incorporates some weight training in a couple classes. It's also just fun
Good luck, both with MFP and with ZUMBAAAAAA!!
Feel free to ad me if you want0 -

My wife has been an instructor for a little over a year and absolutely loves it! Had to cut back her schedule too - it takes a toll on the teachers for sure. She now does 1 class a day 4x/week and loves her "Zumba Divas" She lost and got toned over the first year (lost about 30 lbs and went from size 10ish to size 4/6 over the course of a year doing it an hour a day 6x/week). Not for me, but it has worked great for a lot of ladies! feels more like a party than a grueling workout (500-1000 calories an hour is accurate!)0

I do Zumba once a week. I stick with lifting the rest of the week, but Zumba is the one thing I crave! I can't say that Zumba alone has added to any success I have had, but it sure has helped with stress relief and making me feel a little sexyIf you enjoy it, stick with it!0

Ideally, I do zumba MWF after work and before class, but this month has been awful and zumba also collides with office hours, and I need help with Fed Tax.
However, in Jan and Feb, I was doing zumba 3x a week and while I wasn't losing anything, I did feel a lot better and I noticed that clothes were fitting a little better. I was also lifting 3x a week. My endurance went up and my agility went up.
I love Zumba. Doing it makes me happy, and I think that is the sign of a great work out that you can stick with for a long time. It's why many runners run!
I wear a HRM and I burn about 800 cal a class.0 -

We have about 5 men in our class, they all have fun!0 -
Thank u everyone for all of your answers!!:)0

I've got nothing against the men doing zumba - that's awesome. As for me, I don't need to give my wife more ammo about my dancing skillz....0

Sorry wasn't trying to say you did. More that if you felt uncomfortable because it's a "girl thing" that you shouldn't worry about it. Believe me, I can't dance either. As my BF puts it, I have no sense of rhythm, which is why I collide with the person next to me occasionally at Zumba. :laugh:0 -
I do Zumba at least 4X a week. It is so much fun as I love to dance. You burn a ton of calories and sweat like crazy! I have lost about 18lbs since January and still have 26lbs to go. I have definitely lost inches. My jeans that used to be sooo tight on me are now loose on me. I decided to do Zumba classes as I detest going to the gym. Jumping on a treadmill and boring myself to death is just not for me!
I also lift during the week and just completed a 30 day squat challenge. Doing weights/toning exercises has helped me drop the lbs faster.
Good luck, enjoy and most of all SMILE when you are dancing! Feel free to add me as a friend to keep up with our progress!0 -
Love Zumba! If nothing else it helps your self esteem get a nice boost, but I try to do a little of everything in my workouts. I am just waiting to be cleared for weight lifting again. Boo, dislocating shoulder. :grumble:0

I do Zumba three times a week. Two in class, and one with DVDs, which I vary. I need regular exercise just to maintain, and love the dance moves, but I also do cardio classes, and work on strength, balance, and flexibility.
We have several women who are regulars in Zumba class who are overweight, and one who is obese, so obviously a sensible diet is needed to supplement any exercise program in order to lose weight.
Good luck...and enjoy. It's fun!!0 -
No worries. That would be me for sure if i was her Zumba class. Plus i'd hear about it when i got home, lol0

Zumba twice a day, five days a week and I stay under 1500-1700 calories per day. I have lost 40 lbs in two and a half months.0

Wow that is awesome great job!0 -
Zumba 5 days a week (Exhileration set) - lost 50 of my pounds using mostly that and of course a decent diet to go with it. I was obsessed with it - look forward to it and was ticked off when I had to miss a day lol0

I am unable to do Zumba right now due to being VERY pregnant, but I was doing it two times per week for several months and I really saw lots of changes in my body. It is really the only workout that I enjoy doing and can stay motivated long enough to make it habit! I can't wait to be able to start it again once the baby is born.0

I got back into a fit lifestyle thanks to Zumba. An acquaintance of mine (not on MFP) lost over 100 pounds doing Zumba and is now an instructor, as well as a beachbody coach and Insanity instructor, so it's absolutely possible to lose lots of weight doing it. It's so fun!
I can't do it anymore after I destroyed my left ankle last summer. I miss it though and it's a long term goal of mine to be able to take some Zumba classes again someday, since I love my instructor dearly and miss taking her classes.0 -
Hey. There are a few full Zumba vids floating around online. You just have to find them. . . I'm a bit confused as to why Zumba kills me more than Tae Bo. Very strange. . .0
-
I loved it when I was doing it. It was a lot of fun and a really good workout. However, I really messed up my knees while doing it so I'm afraid to try it again. Just be careful with the movements so you don't hurt yourself. I hope you enjoy it!!0
