I am having a sore throat and taking a day off today. I thought I would chip-in about the info on crosscrunch website. I do not know pamelawh personally, but I do believe her that she is enthusiastically sharing the food menus that work for her. At the same time, I understand other members' frustration about crosscrunch.com, a commercial website. There are 5-weeks' worth of free menus and shopping lists on that site if you go directly to the following links. Best of luck to everyone, and I hope we can all remain friendly :)

Sorry about coming on too strong. I just saw three in a row posts about it, and thought it was too many. I'll try not to let my PMS come across on this site ~ :)

    thank you to sanlin20.

when i see information that i may not be interested in or want i do not feel compelled to write in and comment. i simply pass it by. i do remark about information that i do like because i appreciate the input from others.

i feel we all have a responsibility to make others around us feel better. a long time ago i decided that people who made me feel better were pluses in my life and people who made me feel the same were equals and people who made me feel worse were minuses. why on earth would you spend your time with equals and minuses when you can spend your time with pluses.

that comment earlier made me feel bad. my intention has never been to use this as some public forum to benefit myself other than to look to be inspired and motivated. it helps me to read the comments about what others go through and how they feel because i've been there. there are times i have felt like quitting but my mom taught me what you start you do not stop. i told my mom about that site, i told my kids about that site. if someone sees me and says how great i look now i tell them about that site. for once in my life i connected what it meant to use food as fuel and i get teary eyed when i remember how i used to fight food. what that menu did for me was tomorrow i know i am going to be thinner than i was today. eating processed carbs i knew i was going to be fatter. i intend to be fit and healthy and i am invested in living as long as i can for my kids and special people in my life.

so a special thank you to the person sanlin20 who took the time to make a positive comment. i wasn't even going to read any more replies but i am glad that i saw yours.

I understand that you are having great luck with crosscrunch.com but it seems as if every other post that you make is about crosscrunch and 2 posts is enough about it. Hurting your feelings was not my intention at all. Other posts are getting pushed back due to all the crosscrunch hype and I don't think it's fair at all.

I definitely agree with Sanlin in that I think pamelawh is sharing the information on crosscrunch.com with the best of intentions. She's been a great member and has offered to help other members several times and in numerous posts.

However, I would like to ask everyone on the site to post links to other websites on the forums only in moderation, if at all. There are a lot of other website owners who try to use forums to promote their own products or websites, and I don't want the forums here to become cluttered with ads or spam. Again, I absolutely don't think pamelawh is trying to advertise at all, but unfortunately, the only way to prevent spam is to set a more blanket rule that will sometimes catch the good with the bad.

I'm planning on writing up some forum rules soon just so that everyone is clear on what's permitted and not permitted on the forums. But in the meantime, please try to refrain from posting links to other sites as much as possible.

    Thanks everyone!

While I realize you did not say "No Links", I feel that discouraging them at all is not in the interests of the community.

I agree, if the links are inappropriate for whatever reason, the poster should be warned, then banned if they do not relent. In my time here, I haven't seen that to be a problem. Even this 'topic link' really is only an issue because the /bonus part of the URL was omitted.

If you discourage links to other websites, you deprive your community of valuable information sharing. As great as this site is, it does not contain all the information we need.

Links to health standards, nutrition information, exercise information, calorie calculators, etc, etc, etc need to be promoted as a way of helping us all and aiding in our healthy pursuits.

I would recommend specific rules be written that links must be of (predominantly) informational and not commercial nature. (I say predominantly because there are many sites that promote products, yet the information contained as a "lure" is legitimate, valuable, and free.) I think a 'blanket rule' would be more harm than no rule at all.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Razboo, I think you're right.

Let me work on coming up with a more specific policy around what types of links I'd like to ban and what types would be permissible. The forums are meant to be a place to share information.

I think in general, links that seem ok to me are links to major medical websites like WebMD, CNN Health, etc. These sites provide valuable information for all of us. Links to "official" websites like the South Beach Diet or Weight Watchers would probably be ok also.

Links that seem bad to me are sites that promote products for sale or seem to be using our forums to advertise themselves. Links to sites that provide the same content that MyFitnessPal such as food databases, BMI calculators, etc. also would not be permitted because we work hard to provide you that information. And links that seem excessive, i.e. more than 2 or 3 links to a website promoting products for sale by a single member, even if the content is informational, would not be allowed because they could be construed as ads, even if the member didn't intend them that way.

Under this policy, I think a link to a page like crosscrunch.com/bonus would be totally fine as long as it's only 1 or two posts because the content on that page is informational. But a link to the crosscrunch.com homepage would not be permitted because that page is primarily an ad. And more than a couple of links to crosscrunch.com/bonus would also not be allowed, even if that link provides useful information.

A policy like that might be better at allowing the types of information sharing that we like without turning the forums into advertisements. I'll continue working on it, but let me know if you have any other suggestions or thoughts.

    Thanks!

Awesome. I think the way you are looking at it good, and your intentions are certainly on track. :)

Perhaps a sticky page for 'approved' websites would help. Then we can just refer folks to that rather than post links. It would also make a good reference tool.

It would be asking a little work of you though, to verify a website, then adding it to the sticky.

    Hi Mike,
I totally agree with what you just posted. I think that the links are important because we are just sharing informtion that we have found useful and important to us. But I have to say that the crosscrunch thing was over done, the first day that I got into this forum and started reading the posts, I thought that this site was trying to sell us into going there instead, and I thought "why would you want us to go somewhere else", it was very confusing. I think that you should reserve the right to edit off any website mentioned that you don't feel appropriate or you see that it's over done. Some sensible rules will be good.

Putting my 2cents in, I agree with Razboo, because there are definately sites in here that others have provided to help each other out. I could have googled them, but having others provide them just saved time. I don't think I would have stayed this long without all the members positive support and feedback when I needed it. You have a great website and I feel bad if I made an issue about someone giving a site link for support.

Maybe we should have a menu link for free websites that really are helpful. I have no idea how this would be screened first. However there are sites that are helpful and instead of having people post them all the time, they could say "check out the web resources page". What do you think?

Hey Healthier - I tried your picture affect, but it didn't work out as good. Happy Halloween anyway. Try not to eat to many Charleston Chews. As for me, right now I have to go put away my peanut butter and triscuits before I turn into Julie of the Piggies..
