10lbs in the first two weeks?

Hello! I'm Annie, I'm 19 and I've been working out and dieting consistently for about two weeks now
I weigh myself every Tuesday morning, and this morning when I stepped on the scales I was surprised to see I'd lost 6lbs in the last week.
Here's my weigh ins so far:
Week 1: 11 stone 9 pounds
Week 2: 11 stone 6 pounds
Week 3: 11 stone / 10 stone 13 pounds and 3/4 (Today)
Is this normal? I have a feeling it could be water weight as I've read about that, but I've lost inches too. I feel as though 10lbs in 2 weeks is quite a big and unhealthy loss though, will this weight stay off? I'm exercising for at least half an hour everyday and eating 1200ish calories every day. I don't know if it's come off because I had that weight to lose? Or even if that makes sense. I guess I'm just looking for advice on how to proceed, what to expect, whether this is normal etc
Thank you

If you're just starting out, 10 lbs in 2 weeks is normal. It's water weight and it won't last, BUT don't get discouraged. You'll taper off and start losing a lb or so a week if you stick to it. You're losing inches so that a great thing too. I wouldn't worry too much about the scale.0

Yes, a big drop like that at the beginning of your diet is probably a lot of water weight. It should start to taper off the next couple of weeks.
One thing I'd caution you about is to make sure you're logging your exercise here and eating back at least some of those extra calories you earn. You don't want to burn out early in your diet and 1200 calories isn't a lot to work with.0 -

Thank you! Can I ask what water weight is? I've never really understood it! And yes I think I will up my calories, I guess I'm scared of putting the weight back on but I'd rather the loss lasts!0 -
Your body keeps extra water around for a variety of reasons including too much salt, you don't drink enough water, and I think there are others. So when you go on a diet, if you cut sodium or start drinking lots of water, your body flushes out all the extra water it had been holding on to, and woosh! You lose weight.
Another time this happens is around your period (if you bloat) some women (no idea why, so someone else can help me out on this) hold extra water weight when on their periods, and at the end of the period you drop it all, which is why a lot of people see an increase in weight during their period.
It also happens when you're sore. Your muscles hold extra water/glycogen to repair them and so you can gain weight just from being sore (from me it can be 2-5lbs!) Edit: this is water, not fat!0
