Oops, meant that as a question. ![:) :)](https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I'm 43, 5'6 and 149 lbs. I have a HRM but get an entirely different reading than what the treadmill tells me. Is it safe to assume 100 calories burned for every mile walked on the treadmill at a pace of about 3.4 MPH?

That's a general rule, but I think it's more someone of a higher weight than you, so your burn could be a little lower. I'd definitely go with an HRM over the machine's reading.0

Your HRM is most likely more accurate than the averages given by the treadmill machine.0

Problem is, my HRM reads higher. I have my height, weight and age plugged in. I don't on the treadmill.
This morning, I walked for 40 minutes at 3.4 MPH -- distance of 2.3 miles. Treadmill says I burned 230 calories. HRM says 319. ??!0 -
I'd definitely go with the lowest one. HRMs are not infallible and walking doesn't burn a ton of calories. Even 100 per miles seems a little high at your weight.

Colesnotes - a good way to estimate
Your Total Calorie Burn/Mile Your Net Calorie Burn/Mile
Running
.75 x your weight (in lbs.) .63 x your weight
Walking
.53 x your weight .30 x your weight

ETA - 100 calories per mile wouldn't be too bad to assume, just pointing out it is on the high side.0 -
No. Overestimation. A mile in the road walking at 3mph would be about 80 calories, and the treadmill will do some of the leg work for you. Treadmills are a waste of time.....0

Thanks everyone. I am going to figure 80 cal burned per mile.0
