I know I need carbs in my diet. I am just struggling with eating the carbs and calories that I need as well as consuming the fat that I need. I always end up a little light on my carbs, when I noticed that I put more bread in my diet. now I am going over in carbs!

I really don't know how to deal with balancing the amount of carbs I get versus the amount of calories. Honestly, I want to stay in the green, and not eat over 1200 calories, but then it tells me that MFP is telling me that I am putting myself in starvation mode, so I eat a little bit more. guh, maybe I just don't like seeing the red marks. I know thats crazy. It just bothers me.

also, what about fat? I am not eating enough fat either, but I honestly have no idea how to put that in my diet....

  • If you're looking to add fat into your diet, make sure it's healthy fat, like omega 3's. Fish Oil and Flaxseed are pretty much king in that territory. As for carbohydrates, I cycle them so I usually do 2 days of low carb and 1 day of high carb, to avoid starvation response. If you're having trouble finding that sweet spot of carbs you can go under for a couple days and then over for one.

Don't eat under 1200 calories, trust me, you will regret it later when your metabolism is slower than molasses and your weight loss halts completely. It's really difficult to get your metabolism back up after it drops that much.
  • I think the problem is that I don't really eat a ton of fat to begin with, but I will look into getting some fish oil pills. Thanks for the advice on the carbs, I think I will do that from now on. I hope it fixes my whole carb issue.

I am doing my best to eat more or just about 1200. since I've had this account it has made it a lot easier to keep up my caloric intake. I was eating dangerously low amounts and I put myself in starvation mode for a little bit. I regret it too. I gained a good three or four pounds in that time from over eating after under eating.
I have managed to lose most of it quickly, plus a little more ( yay!). I will never do that again. I learned my lesson the first time!

Another thing though, what about the whole don't eat after 6 business? is there any truth to that?
  • Avocado, nuts (including nut butters, preferrably if they're 100% nuts with no added nasties), olive oil - all sources of good fats :)

As for not eating after 6; I guess it's up to the individual but I certainly couldn't do that as I only get home at 7 or 7:30 most nights. I often have a snack before bed, and I haven't had any negative results from it. If I'm hungry (true hunger though, not thirst or boredom!!) I'll eat something.

Also, rather than not eating at all after a certain time I think it's more a case of eating the right foods after a certain time. Probably nothing too heavy that will have you up all night while it's digesting :) Plus if I were to give myself a food cut-off time then I know I'd be thinking about all the things I wasn't eating, which would make it hard!! And I'd probably give in and eat something, and probably something not so good because I'd be craving!!

I had the same problem, not getting enough nutrients. I just added olive oil and fish to my diet and am now getting enough fat. As for carbs, that varies. I like to have high and low carb days. Otherwise, I think my body tends to get bored. Bananas and apples tend to give me some decent carbs, and I have them as snacks most days. My husband doesn't get home until 630 and we eat between 7 and 8, and I'm still losing weight. I tend to lose more quickly if I go to bed a little hungry, but I really don't like to. Besides, my doctor told me to eat an apple a couple of hours before bed to regulate my blood sugar throughout the night.
