Here is a paper that Brad Schoenfeld submitted to the NRCA. It isn't new, but I am doing a "refresher" as I have forgotten a bit of it the past two months.

Thank you. My daughter is doing CrossFit and said she was doing the full squat. I've always been told not to go past 90 degrees so I was going to look into this. You made my quest much easier. Thanks!

so correct me if I am wrong...squat depth defines which muscles are worked the most so how deep you go is a personal choice on what you want to work???

And there is no concensus on if one is better than the other as far as injury goes?

I am not good with "papers" but try to gleen information from them when I can...

Yes, in the sense that the deeper you go the more muscles you work. It's not like squatting more shallowly provides a more intense workout for your quads, it just fails to recruit much from your glutes.

The conclusion of this paper is basically that a full squat may be a bit safer than a parallel squat, but if the knee is healthy to begin with there's no practical difference.

    bad paper.

    CaveJo needs pictures to read.

just kidding- good to see the history of the "parallel/knee damage" issues- thanks for sharing.

    glad i read that.

    very informative and concise

i've often heard it said that NOT doing bellow 90 squats would lead to an underdeveloped hamstring. this refutes that.

also says that its pointless to go bellow 90 if your only interested in developing the quads... but i have a tiny *kitten* so i guess i'll have to go down further lol
