Feel Sick on Cheat Day

Hey guys. I have a cheat day every saturday and it has never seemed to affect my weight loss. I start every cheat day by going to the gym just to kickstart my metabolism. I admit that sometimes I overeat so I understand feeling sick then. However, sometimes I get really bloated even when I dont overeat. I have ALOT of gas and my upper abdomen really swells up/bloats. It sucks because I work hard all week long and then end up feeling like crap on the one day I'm supposed to enjoy myself. I have tried gas relief medications but they dont always seem to do much. Any ideas on what I could do to prevent this? I dont want to give up my cheat day guys.

Maybe the bloat is from the carbs or too much fibre in your diet at once.

Are you drinking lots of water to flush it all through?

Maybe just have a cheat MEAL and not a whole cheat DAY.

This will help with the gas & bloating.

Peppermint tea & greentea is good for gas

What sort of foods is a typical cheat day for you, What do you eat?

Is a forced and scheduled cheat really a cheat?

Quit gorging yourself for arbitrary reasons. You're wasting money and bowel movements.

Can a bowel movement ever truly be wasted?

OP: Do you eat different foods than normal on your cheat day?

Yeah, personally, I don't believe in cheat days. I believe it's all about moderation not deprivation. So I make what I eat fit in when I want to eat it. If I go over a little one day, no big deal. I believe whatever you choose you have to make it a lifestyle change, that's why I don't have cheat days, am I going to do this the rest of my life? I just feel like cheat days aren't that sustainable. At least for me.

I personally do not do "cheat days" i might have a cheat meal every now and then but mostly always stay in my limits. So if you do over eat one meal don't do all three make the other two smaller. This will help with the bloated feeling.

I usually dont track what I eat on cheat day. I do eat a lot of carbs though. I feel like the symptoms flare up more if I eat out or eat junk food. I can eat a big home cooked meal and feel fine but if I have a couple slices of pizza I'll feel like crap. Maybe the main cause is processed food? I will try to make a conscious effort to drink more water on my next cheat.

And no I am not gorging myself. I am a 19 year old college kid, we can eat all day. If I feel hungry or am craving something on cheat day, I'll simply eat it.

The only way to prevent it is to find out what foods are causing your the distress and stay away from them. Obviously your body is having an adverse reaction to something your eating.
  • I started with cheat days and then eventually eliminated them almost entirely. Maybe 1 every 3 months if even? I always felt worse after one and would get the same kinda bloat/water retention I didn't want. Not worth it to me.

Maybe your style of diet just isn't really working for you.
Perhaps, instead of having 'cheat' days, you just eat whatever your "normal" diet is, but just in moderation - that way you don't have an adverse reaction when you try eating outside of your diet.

You only have a handful of message board posts, so I’m assuming you are new to MFP. I’m a little unclear as to what benefit there is in setting aside an entire day for this each week, besides “gee, it is great to just eat whatever I want all day”. The fact that your body is reacting adversely should motivate you to rethink this.

I would take a closer look at your diet and integrate more food you like into it throughout the week so that you don’t have a huge binge to make your diet tolerable. If you still feel the need to cut loose, perhaps break the “cheat day” into 3 random cheat meals throughout the week instead.
