how important is target heart rate?

My heart naturally beats fast all the time (like anywhere from 100-120 at rest), so I'm not sure how I'd adjust it to whatever my goal should be during cardio. Would my target stay the same except that I will reach it faster than most people, or does it even matter in terms of burning calories? Sorry if this is a dumb question. :blushing:

It's not a dumb question. The target heart rate is tied intimately with *perceived* exertion. Your cardio targetted well if in a single breath you can say "Susan Lucci deserved her Emmy." :)

Yes, it's a stupid phrase, but it's the right length to test your limits. If you can't get out the whole phrase you're likely overdoing it; if you can carry on casual conversation you're not hitting that sweet spot.

This was really helpful, thank you! :flowerforyou: I'm on the right track then.
