Nutritionist's input please!

Just wanted to put this out there.

I have a metabolic disorder called Carnitine Palmitoyltransfersase II deficiency.

In the past when I have lost weight, I feel like I have lost a lot of muscle tone. I've dropped pounds but not necessarily changed significantly in shape. I am doing a mixture of Couch to 5k and 30 day shred (finished L1day6!) and trying to figure out how to manage my energy and lose weight. After my workouts, I immediately drink a scoop of ON Double Rich Choc protein shake mixed with water. I really want to be able to retain muscle and lose fat but I am not sure if that's going to happen considering that most people recommend a high carb diet for people who have this deficiency.

Any advice or thoughts would be welcome.

Yep. Registered dietician, the kind that works with your physician. Not a nutritionist, as they aren't regulated in the same way and don't necessarily have the kind of knowledge you need for this medical issue.

You may have more luck with a dietitian who specialises in genetic metabolic conditions. They may want you to have genetic testing done (if you haven't already) because you may have one copy of the mutation or two copies and this affects your ability to metabolise long chain fatty acids. They may tailor their advice accordingly.

If you are unsure how to find such a dietitian in your country, Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International may be able to help you find someone in your area. https://www.gmdi.org/

    Best of luck!
