Hi, I had fatty liver too and I was only 30lbs over weight at the time. I was nervous about this so I did a lot of reading and there were some actual studies about what actually causes fatty liver and what's the quickest method of getting the liver to metabolize (oxidize) it's own liver fat. There's an excellent study that showed that a calorie restriction low fat diet works well, but actually that an all meat, high fat, very low carb diet produced much faster results particularly on the liver fat metabolism. I can find the study if you like. Being a bit worried about this condition, I did the Atkins diet. I loved it because I was never hungry, lost weight rapidly and I no longer have a fatty liver after only 45 days. However, low carb diet was very expensive and I wanted to have a more balanced diet, so I started introducing more fruits and vegetables. Now I eat protein, healthy fats ( good omega 3s), and tons of vegetables, fruits for desert. Feel great.
The interesting thing is that I believe my fatty liver was more caused by high sugar rather than animal fat. So I make sure my sugar intake stays low so I stay healthy. Just some thoughts. There's thousands of studies out there and hard to tell which ones are actually accurate, but the plan I used was great. If you stick with your doctors plan, make sure you stay clear of sugar, too much easily gets converted to fat and would probably contribute to a fatty liver.
My best tip I can offer is to track all your foods every day thru MFP and to try and get some daily exercise. Go for it, burn that liver fat and get healthy!0 -
This is the second topic today that has left me wondering "where (and how) the %$^! are these doctors getting their medical degrees?"0

During these last couple weeks I've felt positive changes, energy and mood. For myself it might be the right way considering family history. Its worth trying at this point...I know it's not for everyone. Good advice thanks.♥0

I've been vegan for 3 months now... and here is my advice: get a good cookbook, or several. If you want low fat, use Happy Herbivore cookbooks. There is also a couple vegan groups on MFP. Good luck!0

I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease about a year ago and they never told me much of anything other than lose weight. But never restricted me to a specific food. She said as I lose weight it could correct itself.0

If you added fish you are not Vegan, you are closer to Macro-biotic which has been in vogue in the US since the 60s. The diet is more closely related to Northern Pacific Rim countries and Island nations like Japan. Vegans do not eat or use any products derived from animal products if an animal/fish has been harmed, not even most cheeses as they contain Rennet which is derived from animals stomach lining. Anyway, this is beyond the point of Fatty Liver Disease. Low fat, balanced diet and lose weight until you are with in 5 or 10 lbs of the upper limit of your BMI usually does the trick. Of course getting to your BMI is better. Good Luck0
