I was reading an article today and it explained that eating more calories in the morning (heavy on the protein and carbs) will promote a better weight loss. I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but will it actually burn more?

I try to keep an average calorie intake for all of my meals. Should I try this tactic?

I do this. I eat a larger meal for breakfast/midmorning snacks, medium for lunch, medium sized afternoon snack before the gym and light dinner (lean protein and veggies- no other carbs). I have read this is better, and it works for me.

Typically for breakfast I have oatmeal, 2 eggs, then have fruit, etc as a mid-morning meal. I would say average amounts, I eat about 500-600 cals for breakfast/mid-morning snack, 400 or so for lunch, 400 for dinner and the other 300 for mid-afternoon snack.

I try and eat a good breakfast (slightly higher on the calorie count) as I figure its got to set me up for the day. I usually have a good lunch too, and just a salad for dinner, as thats all I feel like eating, and my body isn't crying out for a huge dinner because I've paced myself during the day. Also too, I've read that you should eat something within 45 minutes of getting up or your body freaks and thinks you're skipping breakfast and goes into starvation mode. I found that I was just having a cup of tea before going out on the farm, then having my breakfast later when I came in (about 2 hours after getting up). I now have a cup of tea and a slice of toast before leaving the house, and I still have my breakfast when I come in later, but I am actually losing more weight by eating more in the morning!! Sounds bizarre, but it works,

    Good luck!

My personal trainer recommends a better breakfast yes, especially if you're going to work out during the day. Food is fuel for your body - gotta fill it up to go throughout the day.

Eat like a king for breakfast.
Eat like a prince for lunch.
Eat like a pauper for dinner.

I eat 85% of my calories before 6pm.
  • It is called BREAK-FAST. You are literally breaking the 7-8 hour fast that takes place at night when we sleep. When you wake up in the morning your metabolism is at its slowest. By consuming a healthy, hearty breakfast you jump start your system and provide needed calories to fuel your body for the rest of the day. Think of it as lighter fluid on charcoal. You don't add lighter fluid the entire time you grill. You just use it at the beginning to get the fire going.

Some research has found that women in particular who eat almost half of their daily calories for breakfast have better weight loss or maintenance results because we have more time in the day to burn. I think the idea is that a good breakfast will fuel you and give you the energy to continue with good food choices and to get a workout in and it is supposed to help curb late night hunger.
