Diet Pills do they work?

Hi Everyone. Has anyone tried any diet pills that really work?

I am toying with the idea of starting them but I am a bit skeptical. WIll I put on the weight again when I come off them?

What ones have you tried and what did you like/dislike about them?

:)

Do you really think a pill exists that will make you thinner? Just think about it for a few minutes.

I can't find it right now but I saw a picture once that read "You didn't take pills to get fat did you? Why take them to get fit" I'm not saying your fat, I'm just saying this applies.

I tried diet pills years ago (diet pills + portion control) .....I lost weight. No surprise there, with portion control I would have lost weight anyway!! No point in paying $$$ for something, when I did most of the work myself.

Will you put the weight back on? YES absolutely. The reason so many people re-gain lost weight (myself included) is that diet pills don't miraculously change your lifestyle. When I went off diet pills & went back to eating (bigger portions than I needed)....and stopped exercise....the weight came back (doh!).

I don't know what the prescription was......(speed I'm sure) .....my heart would race...so I cut the dose.....I was young & stupid to put my health in jeopardy.

It's good to hear from someone who has experience with them. Think I might stick to good old fashioned portion control instead so :)

I think a lot of factors go into whether or not you should try diet pills. I've bought a couple of different diet pills (when I was a teen), but I've always had an issue with remembering to take things everyday, so I never took any longer than about 5 days, so I'm not sure personally how they "work." Basically, I believe a pill CAN help you lose weight--I'm not saying it will help you lose healthily though. Depends on what you're using it for. Do you have issues with portion control or are you looking for energy?
I find that just targeting those things in more "natural" ways is best. That's what I've always done and have been able to lose weight that way. I think you have the right idea just controlling your portions instead of opting for any pills. One way to cut cravings is do a diet of just citrus and protein for two or so days to get your cravings to go away and allow you to portion better. And remember, the first couple days are the hardest, then it's a piece of cake. ;)

Absolutely! With not changing eating habits, the pounds will come back on faster than they came off. That being said, I have a doctor whose specialty is nutrition. In addition to lots of nutrition counseling, complete blood work, EKG, then blood pressure once a month, she gives me prescription diet pills. She gives me a printout each month of inches lost, and weight lost.

I also have to track my food and exercise. That's how I found this site! So far so good. I had been writing down my food before, but not the amounts. I can't believe it's actually me, but I am weighing and measuring my food now. It really is helping me to keep track of every bite. I don't know how long I will do it, but for now, it is a great tool.

So the answer is, yes you can pack on the pounds after stopping diet pills. But the same thing can happen after a crash diet. I think the key word is diet. I can't be on a diet all the time. It doesn't work. What I can do is keep eating right.

I think the reason people might put on weight after taking diet pills is that they go back to their old eating that made them fat because the pill either allegedly helped with fat loss, suppressed the appetite, or something like that. when the pills stops its pharmceutical duty, then the person is left with themselves and their cravings, bad eating habits etc, that the pill masked. People blame the pill when its really them. Heck even people after weight loss surgery are left with their brain that they go out and crave food that is not good for them and really can make them sick, but yet, they drive to the Macdonalds still chomping on those foods that got them fat.

If a person can look at food as fuel, and just eat when hungry or maybe not even give in to hunger all the time, and really know the difference between hunger and cravings, then that can make a big difference. but food can have so much emotional baggage to it, the person can be its slave. its not the food per se, but the person making it that. Why else would you explain why a person can get to the point where they are stuck in bed (My 600 Pound Life tv show); they cant walk normally - have to walk with a cane, wheelchair, scooter in Walmart, waddle, knees splayed out from the weight pushing out the knees, and get out of breath after 15 minutes, and still go to the all you can eat buffet and eat 3 plates of food and sit there and burp and get heartburn and acid reflux because they refuse to put down the extra cheese, extra toppings, extra thick crust with 3 layers of cheese on it pizza.

Ok eat that if you are skinny, but if you are having medical conditions because you are so fat, then i am talking about you.

I've never tried diet pills, but I can vouch for the old fashioned approach.
    It 100% works.

WARNING: This is not a polite story or one for the squeamish among us.
Here's my fun story about Alli: I was about to get on it a few years ago - it was legal and freely available, so why not try it, was my thinking - and then I had a friend come to my house with her kids for a playdate. She was there for a couple hours, but kept running to the bathroom - I figured maybe she was having some kind of stomach issues, and didn't want to mention it. Finally, right as they were about to leave, she came to me, red-faced.
"I need to ask you for some toilet bowl cleaner."
"What, did one of the kids have an accident?"
"No...it was me. I'm on Alli, and so I have to go to the bathroom a lot, and sometimes...it gets a little messy."
We're good friends, so whatever. I grab the toilet-bowl cleaner and go in the bathroom. All I'll say is - WOW. After seeing what had happened to my toilet bowl, I decided Alli was definitely something I could do without. Because the drug changes the way your body processes fat, some very curious things happen when you poop. My friend then confessed to me that she had to either wear adult diapers or carry multiple changes of underwear with her because of the "leakage" issue (Google it). I would never get on it, based on my friend's experience, and others I have heard.

Exactly. The biggest problem with diet pills, is that even if you have changed your eating habits, they suppress your appetite. So even though you have been eating healthier, it's now an effort. While on the pills it is easy to maintain healthy amounts of food. The difference between going on diet pills to lose weight and losing it without the pills, is that usually people do change their lifestyles. But a crash diet is basically the same as diet pills. It is not sustainable.

    Alli, yuk!!!!!

I've watched My 600 Pound Life. It's so sad to see people get the bariatric surgery, then go back to their old ways, and gain it all back. On the other hand, I love the success stories!

But you are right, if you don't change your lifestyle, it's not even worth the bother. Now that I am thinking about it. it would probably benefit people, me, for one, to get some counseling to deal with the emotional issues. You are right, the emotional issues are what keep us fat.
