Sleep affecting Weight Loss

Do you feel like lack of or irregular sleep affects your weight loss? I am really starting to notice a pattern. The less I sleep or the more irregular I sleep the weight loss just isn't as good. Anyone else have info on this or notice this too?

I think it may correlate with excess cortisol levels from stress, etc. Just a guess though, I would love other input. It is a curious thing. I still see consistency over long term but in terms of performance and dietary adherence, I'm more likely to overeat and not give my all when I'm sleepy, roo.

ABSOLUTELY! Aside from the fact that it's been observed in scientific circles that sleeping poorly DOES effect weight loss, I find on a personal level that when I sleep poorly, I consume more food, and I can't sleep if I am hungry so that leads to more midnight snacking as well. Then next time I wake up I am even hungrier! It's a vicious cycle for me!

    Yes!

I am a horrible sleeper, I also had my cortisol levels checked and they were through the roof. I've been working to get it all under control and have seen a slight improvement with my weight.

yes sleeps absolutely affects weight loss. there are many many lectures and documentaries on youtube from health professionals and nutritionists that have the science to back it up. your body makes its repairs during sleep. your metabolism gets a recharge so to speak too. its good you have noticed a pattern and are taking the steps to fix it now. I try many ways to get more sleep which reminds me its almost bedtime. :drinker:

    Yep!

I used to pull all night shifts for college stuff and my weight loss progress sucked big time. The weight dropped so much better once I began to sleep better.

When I'm really tired I make more impulsive food choices. I also tend to snack more and seek "instant energy" from less nutritious food. It doesn't so much thwart weight loss as it does thwart nutritional goals.
