Hi everyone. Thought I would introduce myself to you all. I became an above knee amputee in August of 2010. Due to other more pressing medical issues did not get my prosthetic leg until October 2011. I then began the rehabilitation part of my life with learning to walk with the prosthesis. I've come a long way since then, walk without any aids and have returned to work 3 days a week. I had been told during my rehabilitation that once I could walk the pounds would melt off as I would expend more energy walking than someone with two legs. Well let's just say that nothing melting off. I walk around the office as much as possible, wear my leg most days, eat gluten free bread and pasta and drink water. Any members have any advice for me? Cheers Onesock

My goodness you have been thru a lot! Best wishes for you. Just keep moving as best you can and watch your calories. No big secrets to it. I am down 22 lbs since the first of the year. I am trying to get more exercises in my self . Lots of luck on your journey!
  • Hello, have your tried chair aerobics. Sounds silly I know but they do it for seniors at nursing homes.

For me it was easier to lose through eating less than exercising more. As I lost more {I'm 50+ pounds down in 6-8 months} I started to exercise more. These days I am even doing a little light lifting. But if you will log everything, and keep within your goals, you will lose. Best of luck to you.
