Am I the only one who can't stick to a workout programme

I have started and not finished loads of DVD programmes- Chalean extreme, Turbofire, Body Revolution, Chalean Extreme and T25. I love the IDEA of a programme as I'm very goal orientated and I really enjoyed them all at the start but then get bored of repeating the same workout. I know I could do hybrids or make up my own programme but I feel it won't have the same progression. What do others do?

I follow a lifting program and a cycling program (as I'm training for an event)...I do not do DVDs...I wouldn't like them and wouldn't stick to a DVD program either. Maybe you should do something besides a DVD workout.

I have all those programs and then some and have the same issue. I usually make it 4 to 6 weeks and start straying. I now decide what workout I will do from day to day. I make sure at least 3 days are toning or strength DVDs and try to get at least a 30 minute cardio one in for 5 to 6 days a week. I also use the elliptical and walk on nice days. Variety is what keeps me consistent and this is working for me.

I have never really stuck to any DVD programs either. Progressive heavy lifting, yes.

it don't matter if you have the same progression as long as you at least have SOME progression, no? worrying about it could cause a stasis that would be bad for your progress. just don't think about it and do something.

Progressive programs are key. My primary fitness is lifting heavy. I follow programs. I don't do DVDs for 2 reasons:

    They would annoy me
    I won't workout at home

I need the mental space of being OUT and in a training environment. I view home as Home and I get too distracted

YOU. you need to find what you enjoy and works for you.

What are your goals? What do you enjoy? What type of environment?

Sounds like NO to choreographed DVDS : ).

How about 20- 30 minute high intensity workouts instead? A variety of them that you can choose from and rotate through.
Metabolic Resistance Training / Cardio Circuits

I see you've been on MFP since 2010. What are your goals? I ALWAYS recommend strength training. At your age: it could be life changing and totally awesome for you! are u going to workout from home or gym? If you've never branched out beyond DVDS - I could lead you to some programs.

I don't fo DVD workouts - I do my own thing,,, cardio 5 days a week, weights 4 days (never the same area of the body on the same day of the week),,, weekends I do soccer with my daughter and usually a long bike ride either with or without my daughter as well.

For me, the variety of changing the weight lifting target and the different activities on the weekend are enough to keep me focused on the goal.

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. You're right- I've been here for years and lost about 9 pounds but I keep going up and down. I'm within my healthy weight range but want to lose about 10 more pounds. I keep reading about weight training but I suppose bulky equipment puts me off some of the programmes. I've done some of Chalean extreme. I do want to workout at home though- that'd definite. Any further advice would be great.

That sounds an interesting idea too. Thanks
