No, not your biceps, haha. I mean, your actual personal weapons.

Last night around 9pm, there was an attempted break-in at the apartment next door, but the would-be burglar was met with a large angry man with a gun, and ran off. First of all, who breaks into someone's home that early in the night and tries to kick in the front door when people are awake? The story sounds fishy. (And yes I called 911 because he kept swinging around the gun in his rage, and it was pointed right at my apartment. The police helicopters were here in less than 5 min with a spotlight. To my knowledge, they didn't find the perp.)

I just keep thinking, what if that "burglar" meant to break into MY apartment -- a small woman home alone because my hubby left about an hour before that. I've had my share of pervs who see me doing my power-walking around our gated community, and one in particular was very creepy, loitering around under my stairwell and smiling. He looked scary. All our buildings look exactly alike. I just can't shake the feeling that this "attempted break-in" was meant for MY apartment.

I've grown up around guns all my life, my dad is a collector and used to hunt. He has everything from civil war rifles to SK-47 to 9mm pistols. I started shooting his hunting rifles when I was just a little girl (with his help) and I'm still a great shot at target practice. But I've never owned my OWN gun. I think I need one.

So, ladies? Or even men... what sort of gun do you keep for self-defense? Pictures would be cool.

I don't own a gun. Its too much of a hassle to keep and maintain and the ADT sign in the front yard provides more protection than a gun anyway.

You didn't do anything wrong. This is just a controversial topic that someone will most likely turn into an argument...you can't control others though. No need to apologize! :)

My favorite that I own. (Not my pic though, but I own the exact same model). I've got a few other revolvers and a Marlin Model 60. Looking to add a Mosin Nagant soon because of glorious proletariat, comrade.

Come on, he has the American flag get up and the eagle, but he's shooting an AK variant in one hand instead of a second M16? Does he even freedom?

If anyone is silly/stupid enough to break into my house, and actually make it past my two mutts (a rottie and a shepherd), they'll find me waiting at the top of the steps with these:

    Glock23online_zps4b4d4070.jpg

    Glock Model 23/Gen 4 (.40)

    IMG_2359_zpsca409919.jpg

    Ruger "Security Six" (.357)

And, no, the shots won't be to wound.....I'll be aiming for center-mass.

Between my fiance and I we own multiple guns. No pistols yet, because they are a pain to get in NY. I love my ,20 guage, you see the end of that barrel pointed at you and one pissed off chick at the other end, you're gonna think twice. My other choice is a 308 or a .22. I might use the .22 just to watch them dance. lol.

hahahaha. I have no idea what I'll get. At least I'm moving to a safer place in a few weeks, that will be a relief. Every time I hear a noise now, I think someone is breaking in.

though it's horrible to say, I am glad to hear it was your neighbor's apt. and not yours. who knows what kind of fate was in store for you had someone forced entry on your home. situations like these illustrate why it is imperative that people take their personal safety seriously. when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

I used to shoot one of these bad boys, was a pretty good shot with it too:

Well, not exactly. I used the Legend model but it's been discontinued.

It was a 45-pounder, intended to switch to a 55-pounder once I had decent accuracy at 20m.
Never used it for home defense, but considering that it could drive wooden arrows into a frame deep enough that I needed an extractor to get them out I would pity the burglar that caught one in the chest.

It has been about 23 years ago now, but someone broke into my house when my wife, baby (first son), and I were home. We called 911 and I grabbed my 12 gauge shotgun (Remington 870) while suggesting with "flowery language" that he had better evacuate the premises. He did. Cops were there in 2 minutes. Never had an adrenaline rush like that before or since. It took 30 minutes to come down from that.

I'm glad too, at least my neighbor was able to defend himself. I wish I could have gotten a look at the burglar, but it was dark. I just caught a glimpse of someone running away, I was more focused on the guy with the gun because it was pointed in my direction. If the break-in was truly meant for my apartment, I have a feeling it was the man who whistled at me and later I saw him under my stairwell. He did that prolonged eye contact without blinking and had a sinister smile. Still gives me the creeps. I don't keep the same routine now, I walk at different times and in different places. I haven't been out since that break-in. Maybe I should carry pepper spray on my walks.
