SO - I'm looking for a tablet for my son's birthday...He'll be eight. I don't want to invest a lot of money into it since he's not gentle with electronics. Has anyone tried any of the cheaper tablets?

All I'm interested in for him is a decent camera, decent movie resolution, and hopefully something with an sd/micro sd slot.

I'm looking to spend $100 or less for his first tablet.

i remember when I was 8 I used to love legos. there is something very special as a young boy to be able to create something with your hands using your imagination.

Hmmm honestly not sure what you will get for under $100 that is an actual tablet. Maybe some sort of kids one for that price. Then again, if you are in the US you might have more luck.

Sentaruu - Funny you mention legos - the tablet is partially for legos....he is amazing with them. He makes stop motion videos with his camera that blow my mind. But has no screen to watch. :-)

ETA: The majority of his presents are legos. Same as Christmas and last birthday. The tablet is just something extra. His brother is the technology nut...the one I have to wrack my brain to find non-digital things he likes.

Does something like the Kindle Fire fit the bill? Not sure the entry level one has a camera though.

Samsung Galaxy 3 seems to have most of what you're looking for as well.

Maybe check pawn shops or Ebay? I would be careful though on where you buy certain electronics and make sure you get a warranty, which I believe you have to buy them brand new if you want that.
