Water Weight Gain

I often see posts about sudden, overnight weight gains and these concerns are usually pooh-poohed as "it is just water weight!" That is probably true and it is probably just a random happening from too much salt, hormones, or even insufficient water intake. It should be mentioned though that chronic water retention or sudden water weight gains can be symptoms of more serious illnesses like heart and kidney problems. It can be caused from vitamin deficiencies, and other health, sometimes serious, problems. You know your body, so pay attention. Do you have other symptoms like high-blood pressure, decreased urination, pain, swelling, shortness-of-breath, waking up suddenly in the middle of the night, etc? Sudden weight gain for me is a symptom that cannot be ignored. It can be very serious. I know the parameters and when I need to start medication or call my doctor. Drinking large quantities of water is not the solution for me and in fact can be harmful. Again, in most cases, it is just a normal weight gain, but we need to be cautious and never take what our body's tell us too lightly.
