The Fat Kid

I have come to the conclusion that inside all of us is a fat kid. They're the one who tells you to eat those crisps or just have an extra cupcake, it wont hurt, its just one whats the problem. I think for some people the fat kid screams louder and more persistently, mine never shuts the hell up. Over the last 2 months I have been trying to kick mine in to check and fix 20 years of giving in and developing some terrible eating habits - I wouldn't eat veg, fruit or salad and would pretty much eat what I wanted, with the fat kid telling me its ok. I have been doing really well and was taking an all or nothing approach, cutting out every temptation and not having 'just one' biscuit as I knew I wouldn't be able to have just one. But this week wow...the fat kid went hulk and I have gone over my calories nearly everyday. Monday I had takeout, Thursday I scoffed 600 cals of snacks, Friday was Pizza Hut, last night I made my own chinese which wasn't too bad but still not healthy and tonight - well its chocolate fudge cake and cream.
I have lost 16lbs so far and I am pretty sure that this week I will have put at least 2 or 3 back on. I don't want to never be able to have the foods I enjoy like pizza or ice cream but it seems as though every time I drop my guard and allow myself something, the fat kid breaks through and tells me to stuff myself. Its a constant god damn battle every second of every day...I know some of my friends have a similar problem but then some people probably think this is ridiculous. I was just wondering if anyone here has this problem and how do you deal with it? Is it possible to get rid of the fat kid for good? I really want to get healthy and fit and reach my goal weight but I cant cope with this mental war! Sorry for the rant and I hope nobody takes offence at my weird explanation - I just didnt know how else to put it! And, thanks in advance for any help.

I think you're right in that we all crave and desire things, but that's normal! I also get that you are worried about giving in and indulging more than just that one cupcake or one piece of pizza. The two things that have worked for me are changing the way I see food and learning how to prepare my favorites in a much more healthy fashion.
So first, begin to slowly change how you see food. Food is not "bad", it is not the enemy to be fearedALL food is just that: a source of energy for our bodies. There's nothing wrong with having that cupcake, but when you do have one, find or make a really good one and savor every bite. The rest of your day and/or week should be business as usual: healthy, good choices.
On that note, begin to learn how to prepare your favs in low-cal and more nutrient dense ways. So for example, I LOVE pizza. I eat maybe two pieces of regular pizza a year! LolBut I have found a recipe for pizza that is low cal and super healthy and nutrient dense. And I make it once a week so I feel like I'm "cheating" or whatever you want to call it.
Anyway, hope this helps!0 -
Starting MFP, I knew I had this same issue, I have a really bad tendency to binge and push my belly to limits before I feel full. I'm working on my portion sizes, but I still manage to make myself full by filling up on water before I eat. Once a week we order pizza and wings, my biggest weakness. What I do is down at least 24-32 oz of water before and with my food. I will drink half the bottle of water, take only an appropriate portion size and then take a drink between each bite. It may seem odd or look strange when I eat, but this way I get to enjoy my food, feel full, and know that I didn't go overboard.0
