Hi

What food or foods do you find help you the most when dieting (for whatever reason)? I am currently eating more fresh veg than ever before (goodbye processed foods) so I know that is having a positive effect on me, but my best friend seems to be soups. I find them very filling for lunch and less than half the calories of what I used to eat for lunch (processed junk, mostly), and the variety is massive. I’d find this whole process far harder without my daily soups.

What food/s do you find helps you on this journey?

ALL the foods. Just in moderation. It's what has kept me sane for the last 22 months. But if pressed, things high in protein actually help me stay full the longest.

I eat any food I wish but in moderation. I have so many favorites, it's hard for me to pick one. Fruits and veggies are at the top of my list.

I eat a lot of protein, it helps me feel fuller and retain my LBM. My staples are meat, veggies, fruit, greek yogurt, peanut butter, almonds, pasta, brown rice, quinoa, potatoes, bacon, eggs, bread, chocolate, ice cream, cookies, and water. I still eat everything I did before, just less of it. Or I've found homemade recipes to replace processed convenience foods: Baked fries instead of french fries, homemade meatballs, working on a pizza recipe now. I have kids so my life is full of tacos, hot dogs, and hamburgers. Still keep the processed convenience foods around for hectic days (better than ordering out), and I don't consider any food to be junk. All food fuels my body and all of it has a place in my life, even if that place is only once in a great while.

For me it's all about portion control, I eat the same as before just less of it, I think I eat a healthy balanced diets, I could eat salads every day, but I also enjoy crisps and snacks.

The only real thing I've added is a protein shake to help increase my protein intake, otherwise if I've got enough calories for it I eat it, if I haven't and I still want it, I'll go and do a workout so I can.

Everything! I like variety and knowing myself if I cut anything out of my diet then that's exactly what I'd crave all the time.
I do enjoy soups, they fill me up, can be really yummy and let me get rid of whatever is kicking around in the fridge.
Right now in obsessed with yoghurt and fruit or peanut butter on toast or curried chicken salad (to name a few things).

In terms of satiety, protein always keeps me fullest longest but I really struggle to get enough of it.

Honestly, protein. I've found that when I don't eat an adequate amount of protein (especially in the morning) I have a more difficult time staying within my calorie goal. I get hungry faster and I don't feel satisfied as long. I like to get somewhere near 20 grams of protein in for breakfast. I've found when I do that, the rest of the day goes much better- I make better choices at lunch, which makes for better choices in the afternoon and evening.

While I know I CAN eat whatever I want in moderation... I've discovered that I feel a million times better when I'm eating a healthy diet full of protein and veggies. For me, it's less about what I eat and more about when/how I eat. I am eating every 2-3 hours and have protein & veggies every time. I've also discovered the joy of quinoa. I'm never hungry. My stomach never hurts from overeating or eating the wrong foods and I have sustained energy all day. I don't really eat any high fat/sugar or processed foods because I don't like the way they make me feel.

Roasted brussels sprouts and flaxseed muffins are my absolute favorites right now.

The brussels sprouts are so easy to make. You just cut them either in halves or in thirds, drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper. I just stick them in the toaster oven and broil for 10 minutes. Very quick, very simple, so incredibly delicious. And they're fun to eat as I tend to eat one leaf at a time, haha. This is my go-to savory low calorie meal. 100g sprouts, 5g-10g olive oil. It goes a long way.

Flaxseed muffins (they're really more like puffy and extra-grainy bread) are a great filling snack that packs a ton of fiber. They're easy to make in a mug in the microwave, too. I like topping mine with some cream cheese or Neufchatel cheese blended with some lemon or vanilla extract. A sweet treat that acts as a fiber delivery vehicle!

In general, veggies, soups, protein and fat based snacks (jerky, greek yogurt, avocado, almonds, walnuts, coconut), and plenty of water help me keep on track. Keeps hunger at bay while helping me reach my micro and macro nutritional goals. I'm just now getting into making quick and easy soups. Such a great addition to any diet.
