Best Sugar Substitutes for Baking?

Anyone have suggestions for sugar substitutions when baking? I heard of one called Xylitol but it's kind of expensive and I don't know if they will have it at the local grocery store. Would stevia do the same thing? Any others that you like?

Splenda leaves a pretty nasty aftertaste to me when consumed directly into foods, but it's decent as a baking substitute.
There are tons of sugar alcohols, though you need to be careful because some of them are notorious for causing plenty of people to get the runs.
What about agave? It's natural and is sweeter than sugar.0 -
I've had pretty good luck with the Truvia Baking Blend. It's about $6-7 for a somewhat big bag and you use maybe half the amount you would normally use sugar in a recipe. No one seemed to notice the difference in taste or texture.0
