Confession;
I have a serious sweet tooth.
It's bad.
Most of the time I don't even realize I'm eating something sweet until it's in my mouth. I was just snacking, you know? and suddenly, BAM! There's some chocolate, or a cookie, or cake, or whatever.
It gets worse.
I can eat that sweet thing, and satisfy my craving, but almost as soon as I'm done I'm craving something else sweet and suddenly don't feel satisfied anymore.
I REALLY want to get off sugar. I feel like it's controlling my life, and I need the myfitnesspal community's help and advice.
Anything you can say that will help in possible ways to eventually get me off sugar would be a massive help.
I also wouldn't mind discussing our problems/struggles with sugar together and having this thread become a big support thread/group/team. Thanks!

Not going to happen I'm afraid - you've used too many anti sugar words in your post. lol
the following advice will be.
blah, blah, blah - moderation
blah, blah, blah - Sugars not evil
blah, blah, blah - get OFF sugar, so you're giving up fruit and veg as well then.
blah, blah, blah - your brain only runs off sugar and you need to eat sugar to fuel your body.
blah, blah, blah - oxygen has sugar in it - are you going stop breathing.
blah, blah, blah - you shouldn't give up sugar because...............insert derp!!
Cutting back on sugar for some people is a good thing.
Good luck (with your cutting back sugar and with this thread).0 -
What he said ^-^ !
I've been off sugar for over a year and a few weeks ago I fell off the wagon to have some of my DD's homemade chocolate chip cookies that she worked so hard to make. I fell hard. For two days I binged on those cookies until they were finally eaten up. Then two days later I just had to make a chocolate zucchini cake for my kids with the full amount of sugar, and then baked another cake with no sugar for DH and I. I tasted their cake and it.was.over. I binged. I stuffed half the cake in the freezer to stop myself from eating it all. A week later I got it out along with the no-sugar cake, and I binged again on the sugary cake.
Sugar is addictive to some people. I'm one of them. I am so much happier when I just keep it away from me like it's alcohol to an alcoholic. I don't like being out of control about food. It's upsetting.
This feeling of being addicted to sugar has been explored in a study on sugar and it's affects on the brains of rats.

So cutting out sugar may be a healthy choice if you are find it hard to not binge on sugar.0 -
There's a group called Say No to Sugar which might be a good place to get some support.

You'll hate me for this but cold turkey. Once (a long while ago) I pledged that I would not eat chocolate for a year. So every time it was offered I couldn't try and taper off, it was a hard NO. I do not eat chocolate any more. (note, not that I can't. I don't)
I have a serious sweet tooth also and I find the hardest time isn't when you're longing for that little squre of chocolate/ gummi bear/ cookie. It's when you have the first bite. And your brain goes MOAR! As hard as it is, as long as I don't take the first bite I'm ok.
Also only having minimal sweet stuff around. So little treat size bags of chocolate- I give the multipack to my coworker and I ask for one a day. My coworker knows not to hand out any more but I guess the fact I have to ask and be visibly breaking my own rules, it stops me from actually asking for more!0 -

Haha, thanks. And just to specify, I'm all for natural sugars... I just want to cut out the bad ones.0 -

Sounds like me. I have a terrible problem with bingeing on sugar whenever I stop and then start back up again.

Not getting more is really the hardest thing. Ugh. Thanks for sharing your experience0
