feeling disheartened

I just tried on the same dress I wore for New years eve expecting it to be big for me as I've lost a stone this year, but, it felt the same, tight and uncomfortable :/

This isn't meant to be mean Jenny, but maybe the dress was tighter than think on New Years. Here's my story: In March I focused on losing inches not weight. I was terribly upset when I didn't lose and inches at my waist and hips. I lost on my arms, neck & thighs, and lost 6 lbs. But when I tried a pair of pants on that were tight the last time I wore them I was able to put them on without unzipping them.

I think I heard others in this website refer to it as "body Composition." It may be hard to not be discouraged when the numbers don't show your progress, but your body is changing for the good. Just wait, be patient, a new you will show up before you know it!

Yep!! Really depends on the cut of the item. I've been able to slip into some previously tight dresses and have extra room in my pants but these flippin' jackets I try on from my closet won't fit (unless I prefer not breathing and busting buttons). The cut of those jackets either doesn't align with where I'm losing weight from, or unfortunately, yes, it's possible that they fit me three dress sizes ago and not one, for example.

Either way, just hang in there. This is a marathon, not a sprint. This is the rest of your life. You're doing great, not to mention you're an amazing MFPal, keep it up!!!

that dress won't matter in six months when you are all excited about the smaller size you are shopping for at the stores.

You've lost a stone in 2014? That is serious success! Keep it up, and forget about that dress.

It's possible that you just haven't lost from the spots yet that would make the dress fit better. I tend to lose first from my chest area, so anything that goes around my waist/hips will still be tight even if I've lost a few pounds.

Don't feel disheartened. I didn't notice much difference in my body shape at first either.

You could well have lost visceral fat, which is far more important.

Don't give one dress that much power over you. Put the dress away and go for a walk. You'll drive yourself crazy thinking about it which will lead to eating and that solves nothing!!

Get ready to laugh at that dress in a month or two because it's to big.

Get up. Have a glass of water. Then go enjoy a workout. You can do this!!

That's alright. You deserve a NEW dress, anyways! Focus on the positive--find something about your changing self that you appreciate. It could be something inconsequential to everyone else, but meaningful to you. Now focus on THAT success. Dresses come and go...styles change.....bodies change..... but you are always going to be YOU, no matter what dress you're wearing!

I've lost sixteen pounds all together but still not even a centimeter from my thighs.

I bet you've lost weight from somewhere that the dress wasn't tight.

Thank you all. Even my fella said it must have been tighter at new year. One day it's going to be huge on me, and I'm going to be shocked at the size of the dress!
And be very happy and much healthier with a smaller dress size :D

    Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thank you for everyones kind words <3 Love to you all, what a great community ~:D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I wrote this before and it disappeared, so this may be a repeat:

how about, when you are really discouraged, you try a "Root Cause Analysis"?

This means, you consider everything that may be contributing to the problem/disappointment.

NUMBER 1. One Problem is that the dress is tighter when, you should be decidedly smaller.

Possible reasons have been mentioned by several posts, including:

    a. Maybe it was tighter at New Years than you remember.

    b. You may have lost muscle tone and are not as compact in some areas as then.

    c. The dress may have shrunk, is it a natural fiber like cotton, or linen? How is it washed and dried?

    d. maybe you tried it on after a large meal.

NUMBER 2. The second step is The Root cause of your disappointment.

    a. Are you disappointed because you cannot wear the dress right now?

    b. Do you believe that the dress not fitting more loosely means that you are not getting healthier?

NUMBER 3. The third step is, what will you do about Your findings from steps NUMBER 1 and 2?

If you found the worst case scenario, that you are not as tightly compact as three months ago, despite weighing less, Will you try another approach or give up?

    What are your options?

    a. find a person who has had this problem and ask what they eat, and what type of exercise they do to get more fit and smaller.

    b. Google exercises for the areas that you find are not as fit as before.

    c. Go to a gym and ask a fitness trainer about these areas and what they recommend for exercise and eating.

    d. Watch or listen to motivational tapes, I love Zig Ziglar, he is all over u-tube. You may have to listen for a long time, but her is entertaining and encouraging.

    e. Watch some viedoes aobut healthy eating, Joe Cross has some great ideas, and here is one form a MYFItness friend:

Fast forward to early April,... and I “happened” to catch a presentation on PBS entitled “Eat, Fast and Live Longer” https://player.vimeo.com/video/54089463 by Dr. Michael Mosley.
It made me stop, think and watch it again…Fasting for two nonconsecutive days each week, while eating what I normally ate on the other five?
“You can do anything for 24 hours,” I reasoned.

    f. give up

then decide which option you really want to do.

I realize that this is a long, drawn out answer, but sometimes the long way is the short way and if you are very disappointed, maybe it is worth really figuring out what may be happening and how to have more of the shape you want with a little change to some of what you are already doing to succeed. :)

My thinking is that you are already accomplishing your goals, hang in there lady, you can do this!
