Hello! Need encouragement!

Hi Everyone -

I have used myfitnesspal in the past, but I haven't been on in a while. I've never posted anything, just used it for keeping track of calories, but after reading some posts I thought it might be nice to join in.

I am 34 years old, and have seen a crazy weight increase over the past 5 years, since I started on the depo provera shot. I can't blame the shot, although it has seemed harder to shed weight since I started using it. I am 5'3" and weighed 111 lbs. when I started that shot - I now weigh 148 lbs, which is shocking to me. I never really kept track of my weight, because I am always active, with 3 little kids and regular exercise on top of normal activities. But when I go to the dr., every time they weigh me I am shocked. I have resolved to keep a VERY close eye on my calorie intake and record everything - all of my calories, exercise, etc. I am hoping this helps, b/c after being very small for my whole life, it's hard to adjust to having the extra weight.

I guess I could just use a bit of encouragement, and maybe to hear that this crazy weight gain happens to others as well. (I am otherwise in very good shape, doctor even tested my thyroid at my request because I was certain something was wrong with me!)

Thanks everyone!! :)

-Monique

Well to give you hope I am currently using Depo as well (was using Mirena before that, depo before that) and I lose weight fairly easily.

It is all about calories in vs calories out.

The best thing to do right now is to go buy a food scale to weigh your solids...and no it's not obsessive...and it takes about 2mins a meal if you get a digital scale that zero's out.

Log everything you eat accurately by weight and by choosing the correct entries (try not to use ones that start with homemade (unless you made it using the recipe builder), or generic or asteriks) as they are user entered and are not always correct.

If you set a reasonable weekly weight loss goal of 1/2lb to 1lb a week, an appropriate activity level, MFP will give you plenty of calories to eat and still lose weight.

If you want to exercise do that too and log it and eat back 50-75% of those calories.

If you do this consisstently you will lose the weight...

With 37 lb. to go, set your goal no higher than 1 lb. per week. Log everything you eat & drink accurately & honestly. Weigh your food.

Take before photos & measurements, and read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
