Don't be - I applaud them for their dedication but be proud of what you do. I am way more active/healthy than most of my friends but there's one or 2 that put my behaviours to shame. I'm proud of them, but my life is full enough, I've lost 16 pounds, I'm fit , I'm healthy, I'm going to be proud to prance around a beach in a bikini soon - that's all that matters. I workout and eat well to be healthy - I've achieved that goal and there's nothing anyone else is doing that will make me feel less proud of myself and the DAMN HARD WORK it took to get here. I've said proud so many time - it's a theme. If being fit and healthy was easy, everyone would be doing it and we wouldn't need these forums. Every time you take the stairs mentally sing "I'm awesome, I'm awesome" - everytime you balance a meal, repeat it.0

If by "intimidated" you mean "inspired" sure! My friends are awesome:flowerforyou:0

There are no friends here....
only people you shoot right away to put them down
and those you keep around a while....because useful...0 -
No. I do my own thing, I am not in anyone else's race but my own. I stopped competing with others and started competing with myself a long time ago and you wouldn't believe how my life changed for the better! And my fitness.0

Ok my cal burn sits about 200 to 400 a day, I have friends that burn up atleast a thousand a day , I'm intimidated, I feel inadequate ! I should be doing more and I'm annoyed at that and jealous that's all , anyone else feel this ? And if theres gifs pls feature a koala or kangaroo . Bit of patriotism never hurt anyone and I'm sick of cat gifs !
Your friends are probably doing it wrong, unless they do mountain hiking or canoeing (or similar) for like several hours.0 -
I'm inspired by what my friends do - always happy when they have a great workout!
We all have the same goal - and when I see they are just as serious about theirs as I am about mine - it makes my day!0 -
I've never EVER burned even close to 1000 calories during a day in workouts. I don't know how people do it, and I have to admit I always think to myself, "yeah, right." They may be overestimating, but maybe not. I think the most I've burned in a day working out is 600, and that was thanks to a 60 minute hardcore FitnessBlender HIIT workout. Sure, I felt awesome about myself afterward, but I'm certainly not going to do that every day.
My average burn each day is 200-250 in a 30-minute routine. That's it. If I burned 1000 calories, I'd have to eat a lot more. That sounds easy, but I know I'd be tempted to use up those extra calories with sweets and other foods I'd rather not indulge in (during the week, anyway). I'm happy with my mediocre burn. I stay within my calorie/macro limits more often than not and I'm losing steadily. That's all that matters!
Burning 1000 calories in a workout is almost always cardio. I can't stand cardio. If I do it twice in a week, I feel good about myself. I'd rather do strength training, burn less calories, and still see good results. If my friends like cardio, they can have it, good for them. We all have to figure out what works for us, so there's no need to be intimidated.0 -
Nope not at all

No. Not really. I assume that if it was that important to me I would exercise to the exclusion of doing anything else.0

It's just comforting to know that others are doing the same, I mix it up I rock climb, run, Pilates, lift weights I mix it up and I work and I have kids I never sit down , well except for mfp time , I just miss that fire I had when I was losing weight and I'm jealous and proud of my beautiful and amazing friends who push out huge numbers wish I.could , that's all yeah jealousy I guess but I do .m
love them they are awesome0 -
As someone who routinely burns 600-1500 cals and has friends who burn a daily 1000+ (mostly through running) I'd just say worry about your own four walls. Do what works for you. I believe in surrounding yourself with talented people that challenge you (stay away from the word "inadequate"). There's probably people that are intimidated by you as well and maybe even look up to you. If you don't feel like you're posting "good" numbers, switch to TDEE and keep it a secret1

No, come at me bro.0 -
When i first arrived here, i felt the same way. my average day was 300 tops. i was so excited when i started burning 500 a day, and now i try to push my minimum to 800, or 500- 400 on lazy days. but i still get a bit grumbly when i see people burning sooo much in one day all the time. but i'll get there, and so will you! im sure they didnt start out right there, just like us. they earned it over time.0

#1 - Most people overestimate their calorie burn. Most home/gym equipment overestimate calorie burn by as must as 50%.
#2 - Scientific studies have shown that cortisol (the stress hormone that, among other things, dictates fat storage) increases in the body after 30 minutes of exercise. Yes, it's true .... your body views long periods of exercise as a threat so it produces more cortisol to protect itself ... thus the potential for more fat storage.
#3 - If you start doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) you can spend as little as 15-20 minutes 3 days a week and burn off far more calories (HIIT burns calories for a minimum of 24 hours whereas long extended slow cardio sessions only burn calories while you are doing it) and burn more fat.
So ... who cares what your friends are doing. There is no proof that what they are doing is either effective or efficient. Do what you do and dont worry about them.1 -
I feel left out as well....

I don't concern myself with other people's burns...I have people on my FL who are posting astronomical burns for what amounts to recreational activity...I have others on my FL who are training for triathlons and century rides and marathons, etc who are legitimately burning those kind of calories...but guess what...they're actually "training" not just working out and they don't train year around....and they also eat like 3,000 - 4,000 calories to accommodate that kind of training.
Your calorie deficit for weight loss is already included in your calorie goal...you don't need to "burn" anything with exercise to lose weight...this is why you're supposed to eat back exercise calories with MFP. Do you know how to "eat back" 1,000 calories of exercise burn?
Again, stop worrying about what others are doing and focus on your own fitness and nutrition goals. Your friends may or may not be doing anything right at all.0 -
I feel left out as well....
Awwwww and thanks everyone especially the lady before this roo post0 -
OP, I think it might help you to remember that your friends didn't add you because you're going to be the anchor of their relay team.
I am fortunate to have awesome friends. The fast majority of them (maybe all!) could beat me running, lifting, etc. I'm really proud of them and their accomplishments. But that ain't me. I gotta do what works well with my body and in my life.
Just be you, OP. It's all gravy!0 -
My friends don't intimidate me, they motivate me to do better!0
