What's wrong with water retention?

Cut down salt, stop retaining water.

But if I exercise and sweat a lot, isn't it useful? Or am I confusing two subjects?

Nothing wrong with water retention, otherwise we would simply die.
I believe water retention should only be relevant to bodybuilders competing for physique competitions where they are trying to get every muscle fiber showing - in that case, water retention would be relevant. But for physiques above 7~10% bodyfat, it makes no difference only water weight which should be taken with a pinch of salt (pun intended)

Nothing really, but it can make you look puffy and change your scale weight.

Ah yes, I thought that might have something to do with it. I haven't weighed myself in months.
