Hello. I am new to this. I have struggled with my weight for over 5 years now and it has become increasingly harder to stay sane. I look around and see all of these skinny people, and when I look in the mirror I hate what I see. I can't even get a job, because we live in a society where looks are more important than skill. My husband, who is skinny, and my children all think that I am beautiful, but it isn't just about how I look, it is how I feel. My health is on a decline, I take thyroid medication everyday but it doesn't seem to be helping. I am looking for someone who understands and has been where I am.

    Hi chrissi,
I think you've come to the right place. The people here are very support and do not judge each other. These are some of the most supportive people that I've ever run into. I'm sure that you ARE a beautiful person, and it is very unfortunate that we live in a society that values outter beauty over inner beauty. I have recently lost over 50 pounds, so I know how you feel. I have always felt unattractive before, and even now, when I look in the mirror, I see the person that I was before. I'm hoping that with time, I will learn to see me for who I am. I am so glad that you have decided to make a change before your heath got too bad. I am sure you will see results and if you get a setback, don't beat yourself up, just come to the forums and ask for help. From what I can see over the last couple of weeks, the people are awesome, and we're all in the same boat. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

    chrissi,

I just looked up the calories for Mountain Dew. A sixteen ounce serving has 220 calories and 62 grams of carbs and 62g sugar.

    yikes.

    Chrissi welcome,
I can certainly relate with your feelings. Beware though that with thyroid conditions it is very common to feel depressed so please don't let it consume you. You are obviously very loved by your family. There are many people who are here that have thyroid conditions and though it can be a struggle you can do it.

    Hi Chrissi,
I don't have a thyroid problem but I have the same problem with "how I feel. vs how I look" People around me have said I look good becasue I've lost some weight ,but inside, I am looking out saying "I'm bigger than everyone else in my dance class. " I am constantly aware of my body shape or I should say my body "out of shape". It gets me down too. What I do know for a fact is that you can come here and we will support you. Our society is absolutely crazy I swear. It's bizarre that getting a job depends on what you look like not what you know. I started this because of health issues too, not because I wanted to look like the super skinny people. I just wanted a healthier me. I think you are on the right track by coming here. People here will always give you a helping hand. Please enjoy the site and keep in touch. ~karen
