I've been fascinated with bats since my parents bought me a Mammel book when I ws young at one of the many museums they took me too...I want to set up a bat house at our property, not sure hubby will go for it yet but I'll convert him eventually

We had one! It's awesome and I love bats. They eat TONS of nasty mosquitos!

In that case, I want a dozen!

Had one flying around my basement dive bombing me. Husband was upstairs blaring music and I was downstairs on the floor in the fetal position screaming for dear life. Finally came down, bat flew upstairs, there was a fishing net, and a whole lot of shenannigans involved but we caught the little fella unharmed. Never saw a bat up close before and by golly he was a cute little guy.

oh! and they're nocturnal, so I could enjoy them...unlike the dang fish who are hiding and asleep when i'm awake. :grumble: stoooopid night shift work crap. can't have a good pet...

wonder if my apartment complex would let me keep a bat? maybe I could tell them it's a deformed cat....

for anyone srsly considering putting up bat houses, do keep this in mind:

bats are the only animal that can recover from rabies. this means that the colony doesn't kick out the ones who have it. this means that they share rabies the way that elementary schools share colds. DO NOT HANDLE WILD BATS!



... or any wild animal, really, but especially bats.

I've been begging for bat houses for the last two years. After seeing this, no more begging, I'm putting them up myself. They are fascinating creatures!

You must! The first time I encountered a bat, it was a baby. It had flown in through our sliding glass door and was chilling on my bed. I had to scoop the little guy up and take him outside. I placed him on our deck railing and he hung out with me for a little while, then took off when he damned well felt like it.

Bats are cute.

Until they get in your house and you see one hanging from the ceiling (really freaky btw). Then you scream like a girl and make your husband capture it and send it back outside while you hide in the bathroom peeking through a crack in the door.
