Need Advice

So I did my first workout session last night and I found that I am having a hard time doing and of the jumping type exercises, its not my muscles that are the problem its my knees, the bones feel like they are popping or grinding or something and I just cant seem to do it any suggestions on how to fix this or ideas why this is happening? Or is it normal and IM just being a wuss ?

    I tried running on the treadmill before but had big problems with my left knee. Switched to swimming now instead as my main exercise.

    I'm no fitness guru but I'd guess that your knees are not used to the impact. I'd suggest trying some exercises to strengthen the joints without damaging them i.e. swimming, stretching, yoga, pilates, riding the bike.

    Don't know what type of workout you are doing, but most of the workout DVD's I use have someone in the session doing a modified version for lower impact on joints and what not. I always go the low impact route. You still get a sufficent calorie burn but don't kill your knees. Like with jump rope motion don't let your feet leave the ground just tap out to the sides while still moving your arms. It helps.

    Wait to you lose a few more lbs. and your body & legs will feel the differance. Doing this playing basketball[alot of jumping] and after losing 10 lbs felt better. Looking forward to losing more so I will feel even better.As your body progresses you will start to see the change.:happy: Anytime you start something new it always more challenging at the start![body not use to it] Good Luck

    I hear you! My knees have been grinding for the last couple of years. Like, I can place my hand on my knee and extend it and feel the grinding. The doctor I went to told me I needed to strengthen the muscles on the inside of my knee to fix the problem. Even after doing 2 rounds of P90X (which I would assume strengthened my muscles) and losing almost 30 lbs, they still grind. I just make sure that I focus on my form when I do squats and lunges and plies. I don't get as low as my hubby does in a lot of the exercises, but I go as low as I comfortably can. It's not "normal" and I don't know why it happened to me (or you). I would advise going to see your doctor and asking about it. They'll be able to give you a thorough examination to see if it is something that you should worry about.

    I too have issues if I do too many jumping jacks, jump squats etc. I now I just do my squats standing still and do a few extra to make up for not jumping. On jumping jacks, I try to bounce instead of jump, & only kick one leg out to the side at a time therefore eliminating the impact as well. I make these modifications on allot of exercises.

    When it comes to cardio machines, my chiropractor has always recommended that I do cardio machines where my feet stay in contact with the machine at all times. This lowers the impact on the knees. Sunch as ARC trainer, spin bikes, rowing machines, stairmaster (the one that has pedals not actual stairs) etc. I hope this helps.
