Buying a bike tomorrow
REI is having thier "garage sale" for the members and as a wonderfully nice employee told me...they have bikes there. I am breaking down and buying one. altrhough I still have my beloved bike my gramma bought me when I refuse to part with it because of its memeories...I also have a second hand one that some richie was just throwing away...but niether one will really be good for the tri. I am just gonna buy a low cost basic bike to get the job done. If I like tris and finish well..I will have money in my hand to buy a super nice one(a cannondal which runs 2000-3000) I KNOW most people my age spend that on cars for themselves but if the burgh ois becoming a bike city..then let me get in on the trend

Good to hear, but unless you plan on going for podium finishes & prize money in tris, don't waste money on a fancy tri bike. I converted my heavy 8 year old hybrid into a tri/hybrid bike by adding some TT bars & better tires(total cost less than $200) & passed alot of $3000 bikes in the few races I did this year. In one race I was 14th in the bike split on a 100+ field. See pics here: http://www.fatguysredemption.com/wp-content/gallery/03-wellandduathlon2010/dsc00713_small.jpg

The engine that drives the bike is way more important than the bike itself.
Oh, and just so you know, once you do a tri, you'll be addicted. :laugh:0 -
