NROLFW and C25K????

Hi everybody,

I want to start the New Rules of Lifting for Women like yesterday, but I'm doing the C25k program (3x a week). Do you think that I could do both as long as I'm alternating days, or am I being too ambitious?

I know the author advises against doing a lot of interval training which is esentially what the c25k is, but it's only 30 minutes. For those of you who have done NROLFW what would your advice be? I'm a complete beginner to lifting weights for the most part.

I'm on Stage 6 of NROLFW and I did Stage 1 alongside the C25K and I didn't have any issues with it. I've always done cardio along with NROLFW despite it being discouraged in the book because I am aiming for overall fitness and cardio fitness is important for me and my goals.

I'm training for a 10K now and running 4 times a week and lifting 3 times a week with 1 rest day and I'm feeling better than I ever have in my life.

So, my advice is go ahead and do it if you feel you can. If you need a rest day take one. Listen to your body and remember to make sure you fuel yourself properly so you don't burn yourself out.

It should be fine, but just watch for any aches and pains that linger for too long. C25K really isn't interval training in the sense that the book probably means, as your running portions are still supposed to be at an easy pace. If you were really doing high intensity speed intervals on a track or to bring your 5K time down, that would be different. (I'm not trying to demean C25K in any way, it's a great program to get started running. I just don't think that's what they mean when they say interval training)
