Menstruation cycle question (serious answers plz)

i have not had my period since november 2013 and i wanted to know if that can cause problems in losing weight. i just recently started back my birth control and my period is due for this week and i am starting to have my cramps.

i was just curious if menstruation cycle can be related to weight loss as well.

Your doctor would be a better person to ask about your specific situation. If you just got a new script for birth control, I assume you are under a physician's care? Sorry I don't have much to add...I haven't experienced that problem but I just think your doc would be a good place to start. Perhaps others will respond who have more info to assist you! Good luck.

You should definitely consult with an OB/GYN but I have been told by those that I've seen that your weight can affect your period because it affects your hormone's and your hormone's are what drive your period. If you're not getting your period, it could be a sign of a hormonal imbalance which is why birth control would work. I didn't get my period for a year, just started getting it again after loosing weight. I didn't want to take birth control so I just had to wait and lose weight to see if it would come down then. My doc didn't like that idea because it could affect your ability to have children but I never wanted children so it didn't bother me.

Make sure you check with your doc, have them check your hormone levels and also do an ultrasound to make sure everything is ok in your uterus. It's best to always be on the safe side. Good luck!

Absolutely! Everyone's different though so just be conscious of how your cycle affects bloating/water weight and know that if you stall or have a slight gain, that's the reason, not fat gain.

For instance, I actually tend to lose weight right before TOM (time of the month) but I know a lot of other women tend to be up a few pounds at that time due to water weight and won't see their normal weight or a loss until after it's over. I also get water weight and cravings around ovulation week (mid cycle).

Hopefully being on BC will help you a bit but those can effect everyone differently as well. Some women blame their BC on weight gain but I think in at least some cases that's just letting the slight increase in appetite be an excuse for overeating and not realizing it. If you're sure you're eating right, etc and gaining then talk to your doc about it.

Well, it all has to do with hormones. You obviously had some kind of hormonal problem which caused you to not have your cycle. There are also hormones which have to do with losing weight. So, yes, your doctor is the best person to ask, since none of us know about your specific issues.

You have some serious hormone imbalance.
Overweight cause menstrual cycle stop but...

STRESS is main influence of almost all health problems. Try to find what will relax you. Hot bath in candlelight with pleasant music, dance, gardening, craft etc...

Check if you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - blood test and ultrasound.

Birth control pills should reduce your weight problem

Who knows. I mentioned my cycle being irregular now to my GYN and she didn't seem to think it was a problem.

i thought this was going to be a question about how weight loss can affect the menstrual cycle, because that it can. depending on fitness level, even when on the pill, a woman can have a shorter or lighter month, or even skip a month or two. your gyn will be the best person to consult about this. but i have no idea whats going on with your body if you haven't had your period for that long and how it will affect other things such as your weight loss goals. birth control pills should not be looked at as a way to lose weight. it can contribute to losing a few pounds, but nothing significant. and besides, everybody is different, its really hard to predict what one person will experience to the next because of preexisting conditions, personal fitness level, lifestyle, etc.
