How do you figure calories burned w/workout DVD?

Hi!
I have been doing workouts I find on Youtube. They are by Pop Sugar Fitness. The one I am doing today is a 40 minute metabolism boosting workout. I do not have a heart rate monitor, fitbit, etc... so what is the best way to measure and record calories burned from these workouts in MFP until I get one of these?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure what that workout is, is it a combination of cardio and strength moves? If so, I'd log that as circuit training.

Yes. Some cardio, some work with dumbbells.

Log under cardiovascular.....the number of minutes....the general category

    General categories......

    Aerobics (high impact, general, etc)

Circuit training .....this is a combo of cardio with some strength training

    Strength training

Calorie burns are dependent on so many things; height, weight, age, gender, exertion level, and more. MFP is a guesstimate. Many items are "generous" ......so barring a HRM (decent for cardio) .....many MFP users manually lower the calories given....by 40% or so.

I log mine as circuit training, I usually do a 30 minute recorded program from Discovery Fit and Health and on the commercial breaks I do jumping jacks, lunges, or run up and down the flights of stairs in my house. It might be a little generours with the calories burned, but I have a FitBit also so I figure that when the two systems talk to each other they will adjust accordingly. I haven't had any real concerns, ie, an unexplained plateau since I started logging them that way.

    Thanks everyone!

I will keep the MFP generosity in mind when recording! Good information to have as I do not have a gym membership currently and the weather in Wisconsin has been crap lately, making outdoor workouts challenging! Can't wait for Spring to arrive :)
