Weights Vs Cardio to loose weight?

Hi,

I have just recently joined a gym, but am unsure on how to reach my goals. I want to loose around 28 pounds and tone up.

I spoke to a personal trainer who told me that doing Free weights, squats and lunges would be more beneficial to me and I would loose weight quicker doing this than doing just cardio. But after researching this I couldn't find any information to back this up. so I am still unsure what to do.

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Do you want to just lose weight, or do you want a hot body? :P
Just doing cardio will help you burn calories, but lifting heavy weights is what's going to get you toned (while still burning some calories!)
    Squat away!

Do both. I have 3 to 4 lift days that involve cardio and 2-3 cardio days, and take 1 day to completely rest. 4lbs down in a week and a half. Just be sure to eat right.

Make sure you are eating at a deficiency or else all of the gym machines and weights in the world won't help you lose weight.

Cardio for weight loss/weights for weight loss and toning.

Calorie deficit for weight loss, exercise for fitness.

I do both weights and cardio.
