Will eating too little cause constipation?

I have a friend of mine who started dieting, lost a bunch of weight, and continued to diet past her goal up to the point where she was eating around 1,400 calories a day, at a pretty high activity level. Her bowels became irregular, and she started becoming dependent on laxatives. Does this happen when you don't eat enough? And why does it happen? Thanks

I'm pretty sure that constipation is caused from lack of water and not enough fiber rather than too few calories.0

Apparently we are back in Jr High.
But yeah ... I mean if you aren't getting the correct amounts of fats, fiber, whathaveyou ... then you might not poop so easy.0
