New and need to lose quite a bit...

Hi,

I'm a 30 something mom of an active toddler and I also work from home. I've followed numerous eating plans over the last few years with no long term success. I need to lose 50-100 pounds (100 would be ideal, but I would be thrilled with 50!)

I had probably my best success with W.Watchers meetings back in 2006 to 2007 - I think knowing that I was accountable to someone - that I would have to step on that scale every week really helped. And talking to other people going through the same things. No one in my close family has struggled with their weight except my grandmothers and some cousins. That makes it really hard for me because no one around me understands at all...

However, now that I'm a mom and my husband has a tough work schedule I'm not sure if I can attend W.Watchers meetings - we live in the RURAL and the nearest meetings are 45 mins away, and it's difficult for me to find a babysitter. Plus it's expensive. I thought about W.Watchers online but then I heard about this website and that it offers something similar to W.Watchers online plus it's free!

So...I was just wondering what everyone thinks?? I'm looking for weight loss friends and suggestions on how to have that "accountability" for weight loss by using this site, thanks everyone for taking the time to read my story. :)

Hi, I am 42 with older kids and a yoyo history with eating, I LOVE my grub but accept that I have to do something (again!) I have been struggling this past year to access the mental state required to successfully stick to any sort of reduction regime. Add me if you like ...and yes, free is FAB. :flowerforyou:

I've only been on here for 5 days but so far so good. I think its good to add friends on here and have your diary open for others to see. The people are there to help you with positive comments and having your diary open i find makes you think twice before eating something bad. Feel free to add me

Wow, quick replies! Thanks a million!!

So how do you manage your weigh-ins? Do you weigh in at home once a week and post any gains or losses here? If you miss a weigh in or don't log in for a while do your friends write and ask how it's going?

Just trying to get some ideas...

Hello! 32 My self and have over 100lbs to lose. I will send a FR soon! I had great success with Weight Watchers a few years back also. I actually did it online only. I have been here for only 2 weeks now and it's starting to become a habit watchers was for me back then. I think the app is great because it's free and I love that they have message boards just like weight watchers. Hard work will pay off. I find a lot of motivation on the boards and great tips.

    Hello there!

I am in need of some accountability as well and would love to be MyFitnessPal friends! Regarding your questions about weighing in and keeping tabs on each other, we would have to set up some guidelines for that ourselves. I have a fitbit and fitbit aria scale. I weigh myself every day and the aria scale uploads my weight directly to my account here.

    Sending a friend request! :-D

Most people update their weight on their profile and if you have the proper setting enabled it will show up on your news feed for your friends to see. Some people weigh in more frequently than others and at varying times of the day or week, on the most part when doesn't matter as much as keeping it at a consistent time.

As far as friends asking about your progress, it depends on how good of a group of friends you develop :-) Mine are all just awesome!

Welcome to MFP, it really is a great place to begin your journey to a healthier life! Developing a good base of friends is extremely helpful. It's good to have others to keep you accountable and inspire you, people to hold you to your goals.

Hello everyone. I'm new too! I've actually used this site in on and off over the past year but I haven't stuck with it or with any type of lifestyle changes. I'm 43 years old with 4 kids and a full time desk job...where I sit A LOT!! My husband and I just bought bikes and we rode for the first time in a really long time 2 nights ago. I felt like a kid again (going down hill) but felt like an old fart trying to go up the hills. The extra weight is killing me. I'm here for motivation and to get my butt in shape. I want to lose over 60 pounds but would be happy with any progress for starters. My biggest problem is afternoon snacks/cravings and being too exhausted when I get home to cook...so we order in a lot and it's really taken it's toll. I'm excited to be here and hope I can meet some fun people and we keep each other motivated!!

Just wanted to say Thank You to everyone who posted, and thanks to those who added me as a friend. I'm hoping if I stay active in logging my food and posting on this site it will help me be accountable, so I can keep going and get healthier. :)

Jenn, I think a big old freezer cook up could be your friend in the evenings, low fat pasta sauces or such which you can quickly heat up, done when you HAVE time of course!
