So, anyone from the area!? I'm planning a trip with my friends August 7-13th for my 21st birthday! Would love to hear must go to places, any advice on hotels, places to go for birthday dinner; especially any good vegetarian friendly places!

:flowerforyou:

...And great bars, of course. This Wisconsinite has got to make sure there's abundance of liquor :drinker:

Born and raise there, but haven't been there in 10 years. That time of the year, bring very light, comfortable clothing, as it will be hot.

Go to places - What are you into? Just drinking and partying for your birthday? If that's the case, just hang out on Bourbon St.

Hotels - What do you want to spend? Where do you want to be? In the Quarter, the Bourbon Orleans is nice, but pricey. The Monteleone is okay, and might be a bit cheaper. In the city, but outside of the Quarter? The Sheraton is still downtown, costs a little less than the other two, and is probably on par with the Bourbon Orleans for niceness.

Food - You may not be able to find a vegetarian restaurant (at least I've never heard of any), but I'm sure you could get a vegetarian meal at most. I'll steer you away from Port-O-Call, because the only vegetarian thing about there is the lettuce on the burgers. For seafood, I'd recommend two places
    1) Deanie's in Bucktown (Metairie) - excellent seafood, and according to their web site, they now have a location in the Quarter)
    2) Acme Oyster House - If you're into oysters...this is your place.
    3) Cooter Brown's - Pub food with a New Orleans flair, and just about every beer you can think of on tap or in a bottle.

The bars are pretty much all the same, but I guess you'll have to go to Pat O'Briens just to say you've been, and if you really want to put your alcohol stamina to the test, make sure you have a hand grenade or five.

Showing your breast isn't just for Mardi Gras, but keep it to a minimum (if you do it), and stop when a crowd forms. Don't show anything below the waist, as that's a good way to get arrested. Crowds aren't all bad though.....stay with them. If you find yourself in a block where there aren't that many people, turn around and go back to where there were.

Above all....drink lots of water....as I said, it will be hot.

Thanks!! Lots of great stuff. We want to stay within walking distance to Bourbon street. We'll likely spend the weekend just drinking lol, but we also want to see stuff in the area. I'm a history buff so stuff like that
