Anyone use plain gelatin in desserts?

I'm fooling around with a concoction that is sort of like a mousse I guess but tastes more like a strawberry shake. What I've done so far is sprinkle a pkg of Knox Gelatin (25 cal) on a 1/4 cup of cold water in a blender. Then bring 3/4 cup water to boil and pour it on the softened gelatin and blend a couple seconds. To this I add 112 grams of plain nonfat greek yogurt (70 cal) along with 3 tsp sugar and blend again.

Next I start dropping in frozen strawberries one by one, 50 cal worth which is about 130 grams (I think -- need to look at pkg again to be sure). Anyway the frozen strawberries cause the gelatin to set up really fast and by the time I've added the last strawberry it is quite thick. Sometimes I put it in the fridge for 10 minutes to get it really set. It makes an entire blender container full for about 150 calories, depending on how much sugar I use. I think I need more sugar. Sugar makes me happy. I could use an artificial sweetner I suppose but I don't buy them so don't have any on hand.

The gelatin is cool stuff, IMO. I'm sure there are more uses.

I was wondering about using protein powder instead of greek yogurt. Is that stuff sweet? Still haven't bought any. My nearest place to buy it is 55 miles away and I don't get there too often. Want to taste some before I order online.

So, anyone else use plain gelatin?

I use plain gelatin all the time. I make my own jello with BCAAs (a supplement) and some green tea. I also put it in my coffee and us it to make my own fruit gummies. It's high in protein and all kinds of other things that are great for you. :)

I buy the Great Lakes kind. It's grass fed and more like a nutritional supplement. Good stuff.

As for protein powder, not all is sweet. Only the sweetened kind. You can can plain unflavoured. This is good to get because you can control the type of sweetener you use and also the flavour. You can use it in things like protein bread, etc that you don't want to taste like fake vanilla or chocolate or whatever else.

I haven't used it but this looks like a great recipe!! Protein powder usually is sweet. It has artificial sweetners in there. Some don't just have to check the label. Walmart carries protein powder in the diet section near the pharmacy and in the sports section with the weights. I would try one out before buying one online. Usually costs more because of shipping and such.

I love the Pure Protein chocolate deluxe bars though. They are awesome!

I use plain gelatin to stabilize whipped cream for cream puffs... they're healthy if they're homemade right???

That stuff is gnarly smelling though when it's heated... I can barely bring myself to put it in the cream.
