Listen to your body. If you feel exhausted, stop and walk instead. Or try intervals of walking/running.0

I'm new to running too, and find if I run in the morning , before breakfast i really struggle. So this Saturday I ran about 10 am, and hour and a half after breakfast, and managed my fastest mile so far. And today i tried a protein drink 20 mins before running (this was pre breakfast) and found that i felt better then too. So next weekend I'll definitely eat something first.
I'll be interested in the other replies that you get, cos i might be getting this very wrong.:blushing:0 -

There really is no right or wrong. I run better on an empty stomach. Sometimes I'll eat more if I know I'll be running the next day. You just have to experiment a bit and see what's right for you. And yes, it does help to get enough sleep. Sleep is just as important as any other factor.0 -

So how long have you been doing this, what sort of session do you do in that 20 minutes and what other exercise do you do?I did wander if its down to lack of sleep also what foods should I be eating that would give energy whilst coping with weight loss.?
Getting enough sleep is significant, but you haven't mentioned if there is something significant about the previous nights sleep or whether you're feeling overtired in general?
I'd be more inclined to assume that it's down to being properly fueled. Without a look at your diary it's difficult to tell whether you're eating enough, or eating the right balance.
For running you need a reasonable level of carbs, as well as protein, you also need to be eating enough to fuel yourself. Not specifically eating before or after your run, but are you actually eating enough in general?
For a short run I personally wouldn't have much to eat, possibly some dried fruit, or a banana. On my longer run days I have a bowl of porridge with a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit, or possibly a couple of slices of wholemeal toast with houmus about an hour before I go out the door.0 -
Thanks people I managed a bit better tonight by having a break ecvery few minutes which seemed to help.0
