Self concious newbie.

Hello everyone, my name is Helen and I am an extremely shy, self concious person. The reason I have decided to join this site is to keep track of my (hopeful) weight loss however I lack motivation and I am a very shy person. So, hello.

I was also wondering if anybody has any tips. I have an AWFUL habit of letting myself get dehydrated. :(

  • Hey! I find that the more I track training logs and use MFP for food, the more disciplined I can be about eating right and training. I also look on food and water as "fuel" which helps me get into the right mindset - sounds crazy but works for me! Also another thing that helps me stay on track is planning the week ahead in terms of what I'm going to eat and when. Water seems to go hand in hand with this. Hope that helps! Sent you a friend request too, feel free to accept if you'd like to. :)

Welcome! This site is awesome I love it. And I am in the same boat with you on the dehydrated part. I tend to not drink enough so it is a daily struggle to drink enough water. Feel free to add me if you like :)

Hello, I am very shy as well, everything will get easier in time. Keep a big water bottle with you all the time and try to drink it throughout the day.
  • I'm always in long meetings or studying (procrastinating) so I forget to exercise, drink or eat properly then I tend to find myself not motivated in the slightest. :(

Welcome! Here's a really great guide to weight loss. It dispels ALL sorts of myths!

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

As for dehydration, I set water goals for myself. I have a 3 cup water bottle that I use every day. At first, when I wasn't even drinking 6 cups of water, I would set 1 goal to finish a bottle by noon. The next goal would be to finish another by the end of the day (6 cups total). Then as my body got used to that, I'd see if I could get myself up to 9 but I didn't really worry if I didn't. Some days I'd be really thirsty and need that 9+ cups and other days I wouldn't.

Edited to add: Just remember to start slow. If you want to make this sustainable, make small changes and add. So maybe first tackle your dehydration problem. When you've got that down, start adding some exercise like a short walk a couple times a week. It's not a race and racing makes you less likely to continue for long periods of time. :)

    heya,

Im a student too (final year at uni) so i totally understand the procrastination thing. I really struggled to begin with, but once I gave myself a regular pattern I really got into it. I'd get home from uni, have dinner, then go to the library, taking my work out stuff with me. i'd then go via the gym on the way home. I find I study better at library (less distractions) and then if I take my stuff with me, and go after Ive done work the gym wasnt so hard to fit into the routine. Also less people tend to go the gym late at night so I always go between 8-10pm. Im terrified to go any other time. Th other day i braved half 7... but thats abut as willing as i am to push my routine gym session times lol

I know its hard to find time to fit exercise in, but its little things. When i drove to uni, Id park furthest from the lecture hall, so I had to walk further. When I got the bus, I got off a stop earlier. It doesnt sound much, but when your first starting its enough. And with the food its all about preparation. Take pack lunches, and leave your purse at home. Stops temptation to buy naughty goodies instead. Make food batches at weekend and freeze them if you cant be bothered to cook when you get in. And carry a water bottle with you everywhere. My uni has tonnes of water fountains everywhere, whenever I see one i top up my bottle. And whenever my hands are bored they go to the bottle and i drink. im drinking way more water than I used to.

Best of luck! and feel free to friend me if you want some support! x
