Exercises for People with Back Issues

I've been trying to target my poor underworked abs with things like crunches and sit ups, but since I've had most of my spine fused with metal rods (from near the base to very high up), I physically cannot lift my back off the ground. I can get my shoulders up, but I can't get myself up past that at all, I don't have the leverage, or maybe the strength. Similarly I suck at yoga and anything that requires back flexibility. I had the surgery when I was 14, and I'm 19 now, so it kinda sucks that it keeps interfering now I've finally gotten around to exercising.

So, all up, does anyone know any back friendly exercises? Or should I just try all-round exercises like swimming and hope for the best?

Have you tried doing a search on youtube? They have tons of different exercise videos on there. I found some chair exercises for seniors; there is no impact on the back. I know you're not a senior but I bet there are some routines on there that you could do. Otherwise, I would definitely look at swimming, aquafit and walking.

    Good luck.
