HI I'm Ken, 50+, have lost 50 lbs since Feb 2010 (220 - l70 lbs). Was using an Iphone App to track my diet, and it wasn't working for me, so I am trying myfitnesspal's app. Seems to work much better, plus it tracks potassium, Iron, and some vitamins/minerals. I became slightly anemic not eating enough, exercising too much ( when I started eating fats, my appetite almost disappeared ). With myfitness pal, I can pay closer attention to my iron intake. My B vitamins, ferritin, iron saturation, folates, are all in range, but have read it takes 100 days or so to replace blood. I am already feeling, and looking (not so pale) better. The food database is more comprehensive as well. For me, its more important that I don't eat too little, so I try and keep my diary current.
I am seeking good health. I try and eat as organic as possible, and include good fats daily. I restrict sugar (normally under 10 grams a day total) and processed foods, no breads, juices, rice, starch foods, soda or candy, high carb foods, and have a supplement regimen that is working for me now. I take no medications now, and question some of the current medical doctrine concerning diet, cholesterol, and medication. I now believe sugar, in all forms, is poison.
I walk 3 to 5 miles, at least 3 times a week, and do light to moderate upper body, and core exercises. I don't smoke or drink, and have decaf coffee occasionally ( my weakness ), have read that Phenols in coffee, tea, and sodas interfere with iron uptake. Some reports up to 80% degradation of iron uptake if coffee is consumed within an hour of a meal. Plus, I believe it interferes with the endocrine system, and that, is a bad thing.
Take care of your liver, it is the most important organ in your body!
Best wishes to all of you seeking good health.
