Gaining while exercising and eating at maintenance. :(

I exercise 3 days a week (2 consist of resistance training and one consists of cardio). I started this slightly more intensive workout out plan a week ago and I've been gaining weight since then. I've gained 2 pounds so far and I've been eating anywhere between 1400-1700 calories a day. I'm getting really discouraged and might quit weight lifting if this continues. Any idea's as to why this is happening? It can't be muscle; it's only been a week since I started training more intensively.

Your weight will fluctuate day to day & throughout the day. Pick a range (for example, +/- 2 lbs.). Weigh yourself weekly. If you go above your range, cut 100 calories. If you go below your range, add 100 calories.0
