Low Carb Questions

Hey guys. Over the last couple months of my diet I have cut my carbs down. For instance, I dont have bread or cereal, or pretty much any grains during the week. I do have a weekly cheat day in which I eat a good amount of carbs. My weight loss is moving along nicely and I am just a couple pounds away from switching to maintenance. My question is, should I avoid eating fruit in order to keep carbs down? I usually have two servings of fruit a day, most of the time that means an apple and an orange. With my usual two servings of fruit, I eat about 100-110 grams of carbs a day. Basically, do I really have to give up fruit?

Also, there is alot of healthy food out there, such as oatmeal, that contains a decent amount of carbs. Will avoiding those types of things really make a significant difference?

How much carbs should I limit myself to in order to optimize fat loss?

Unfortunately, you must give up everything you love. That's just how the game is played :(

The only fruit I can think of that has a reasonably high amount of carbs is bananas, I'm sure you'll be fine with apples and oranges.

Fruit is always a healthy option.

Ok I rushed through that post and it sounds pretty stupid. Basically, my question is can I eat as much fruit as I want as long as I am meeting all of my nutritional goals. Also, will eating more carbs when switching to maintenance have an adverse effect?

Just test it... go from week to week trying new things and see what sticks and what doesn't. No one here can tell you how your body will react.

Time your fruit (carbs in general) around your workouts and they will fuel (before) and help you to recover (after) and grow your muscles.

    Where's MFP's resident Fruitologist, Rocbola?

In all seriousness, it may at first. Any weight gain will be predominantly water weight and it will fluctuate. Such is maintenance. I'm there, and because of that, I weigh about once every 3-4 weeks.
