leaving calories behind

So I'm allowed 1200 calories a day. I usually end up with an awkward 35 or so lingering calories each day. If I eat something else it usually puts me over by around 50. I was wondering what others do with these calories? Is it better to be a few under or a few over?

If I'm a little under, I let it go unless I have a real hunger pang. I keep pickles, olives, carrots and almonds around if I just need to add a few calories without going over.

1200 is the minimum, so it's perfectly fine to go over it. Calories in the range of 35-50 when you're as low as 1200 don't matter.

I wouldn't worry, most people are usually off by 200-400 calories a day anyway.

I go by the weekly deficit, but then I do a couple of really low calorie days with around 500 calories and then frankly I do not care whether I am over by a fair amount on other days. I am doing the 5:2 fast which works very well for me.

In your case, if you are sometimes slightly over and then on other days slightly under it should equalize out.

I keep Tic Tac's around in case I'm under by a couple of calories ;)

honestly you don't need to be that stingy on it. Afterall, these numbers are more of an estimate than an exact amount you should be eating. Nothing knows exactly how much you burn in a day or how much you do in a day so going over a little is fine. Honestly it's best to eat 1200+ then just be under. My dietician told me that a woman should not go under 1200 because it starts to cut back getting in enough of your basic food groups.

So after writing this post I pre-tracked today's food an guess what! 1200 calories on the mark! Haha I just thought that was weird

I honestly dont think you'll be measuring your food to that degree of accuracy.

If you eat a pot of yoghurt do you lick the insides to make sure you get every last calorie out of it? Rinse the tine of soup so there's none left in it?

Plus or minus 50 on any given day is perfectly fine.

Exactly melaniecheecks!!!! I was gonna mention that as my next point. Yesterday I hate tortellini in ragu sauce. I probably had about 1/8 cup of sauce left in bowl!

Theres going to be 10 -20% error rate anyway (maybe more) . Don't look at as a dead on target look at it as a guide and just use some common sense. A few over or under in reality is going to make little difference

What does everyone's daily balance usually look like? I'm trying to figure out how to word what I'm thinking. Lol like if I have 35 left is it worth having a
100 calorie snack and going over by 65 to make up for 35? Or should I just try to keep low cal snacks on hand for those days?

If you have 35 left a 100 calorie anything is fine. I wouldn't make a habit of it but in your case you are already at the minimum that you should be eating, 1200 so go for it. Don't make this new lifestyle a chore ! Enjoy it and developed good eating habits of good food ! Remember too you don't have to stay away from any foods, unless of course there is a medical reason to do that, so just eat in moderation. On the other side of the scale, eating 1200 calories of chocolate is not wise either but enough, I believe you have this topic all figured out !
