Total NOOB question

Hi -

Ok, so I'm new to working out. I want to make the most of my calorie burn/muscle building during my workout. Is there any natural/nutritional supplement I can take to enhance workout results?

I'm new to this; don't make fun of me. =)

Fuel up properly, since you're new to it all save your money skip the pre-workouts and if you feel you need a boost...coffee with some easy fuel such as bagel or toast with a bit of nut butter would be an example for a pre-workout snack. You get out what you put into it.

No. Just make sure you are eating enough. Food is fuel and if you eat too little you won't have the energy for a fantastic workout. Also, make sure you are giving your body what it needs to recover from workouts - plenty of protein including all of the essential amino acids and healthy carbohydrates.

Add up the calories of your post-workout shake and decide if you actually worked out enough to need it ;-)
for example, 30 minutes easy pace running, don't warrant a banana + protein smoothie.

Other than that, overall choosing foods with higher protein, appears a better approach than supplementing. Unless you are into heavy lifting...

There are exceptions though, after log/hard runs for example, a protein shake does seem to take the edge off muscle soreness - real or placebo, who knows...
