White knight is someone who comes to the rescue of someone else instead of letting them defend themselves
Troll is a person who posts something to get an inflammatory reaction
Noob is a newbie, or a person new at something.

I knew the latter two, but a white knight?

Couldn't be bothered googling this though. This type of use of language seems a bit too nerdy for me

white knight = someone who "defends" others who they perceive as being under attack, in particular when that person's not actually under attack or when that person is being criticised for giving dangerous advice or something when the white knight doesn't know the whole story

troll = someone who posts on threads for the purpose of getting a vehement reaction, usually not serious about what they're saying and just posting for amusement, but some trolls are not deliberately trolling, they're posting to get attention/a reaction when they're serious about what they're saying

noob = someone who's new to the forum (short for newbie) - can be someone who's new at anything, e.g. a noob at lifting, marathon running, etc

jeez! not everyone lives on the forums with their 2200 posts, some people actually have a life! And there would be no point in creating posts if you started googling everything dont you think? So please If you dont have something nice to say, dont say it at all.

That was me white knighting while actually being a troll. And those who, even for a second thought i was serious back there would be considered noobs. There you go!

Interesting. I always thought of people who did this as "concern trolls". No matter how disgusting someone's behavior is, there's always someone who sticks up for them and tries to make others feel bad for not liking their actions. Concern trolls show up even when not wanted or needed by the original poster.

no harm in having two words for the same thing... maybe they can be concern troll white knighters..... they annoy me 1. because they inadvertently enable/justify bad or dangerous behaviour, and 2. when someone's being oversensitive, they come in and say everyone's being mean, when they're not they're just giving advice, making the OP more likely to take well meaning advice the wrong way....

I couldn't agree with your description more. i don't like "white knight' because it implies someone is doing something good, helpful and/or productive. When that's the opposite of a concern troll.

Whenever I hear or read about something evil in the world, I try to imagine how a concern troll would respond. Then I go to the comments section of a related article and there it is. It really turns my stomach when the concern trolls are even more forgiving and comes up with even more pathetic excuses than I thought of myself.
