I bought a Sportline ECG (heart rate monitor) and calories burned tracker. The calories burned part is what troubles me.. it looks like the screen says "233kC"... the 233 being the calories already burned but what does the "kC" mean? Im assuming "calories" but I've never heard of it referred to as kC. Any one else have a HRM and wonder the same thing?

Edit: So I now know what a kC is.. kiloCalorie which is a food calorie?

So now my question is - I have only been wearing the HRM for about an hour, if that, and it already says 716kc.. any ideas as to why that would be so high already? Manual is no help to either questions..

What is the difference between calories and kilocalories?

Officially energy in foods is expressed in kilojoules (kJ). Energy in foods historically is expressed in kilocalories (kcal). One kcal equals 4.184 kJ. The scientific definition of a kilocalorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water up one degree Celsius from 15° to 16° at one atmosphere. The true calorie, sometimes referred to as a "small calorie," is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water up one degree Celsius from 15° to 16° at one atmosphere. A kilocalorie is equal to 1000 calories.
  • Your settings are for metric units? If you want Calories instead of kCal then change your settings from metric to imperial.
