Lifting for women

I am buying The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess today, I have already read the sample portion and I really like what he is saying. I have done some other research on lifting, and I really think that this is the route I want to take, but the problem I have, and what I am hoping people here can help me with, is I do not know what I need to begin. The most I have at home for weights is dumbbells (10 lbs are the heaviest), I do not have a lot of money and I cannot afford a gym membership right now. I do have access to a college that has a gym, but am never sure where to begin when I go there.
Can anyone offer advice on what I need to begin lifting?

buy some resistance bands...they're cheap and versatile.0

Go on Youtube and look at how to do basic compound exercises using your bodyweight. Once your form is perfect, you can try adding a bit of weight then start increasing it once it is too easy.0

Resistance bands (as already mentioned). Also, look on Craig's List for weights. I know people on this forum have gotten some pretty sweet deals there.0
